    also:

OK the first bit is a bit confusing the way you put it, I'll try to answer.
You need to install 'Media Connect' go to the windows page and do a search.
Easy to install/setup just follow what it says. It will allow you to select the folders you want to share with the xbox.

Then go to the xbox and make sure you have a connection, you can test the connection in network settings/connection.

Your done, look at my music and you should be able to choose 'computer' and then you can see your shared folders.

    to the also....
If you can find a wireless kit in the shops good luck, still had no luck.
You could use a wireless bridge I'm told, which is cheaper(?) than the official 360 one.

Anyone care to explain what a wireless bridge is/how it works/where I could get one??

or a similar device, connects to the ethernet port on the 360, and allows for wireless gaming, a hell of alot cheaper, then the usb wireless MS one.

I use the Linksys WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge (third one down here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Wireless_Ethernet_Bridges.html) and its an absolutly awesome piece of kit. Roughly costs 80 Euro so its more or less the same price as the official one except its completly cross platform. A doddle to set up, once you have it configured you just need to plug an ethernet cable into and away you go. I currently use it for my laptop, 360 and PS2.

sorry to be a complete retard but :

    3. Turn on your 360 and go to the dash-board i dont know what the dashboard is.

    4. Manually enter the 360's MAC address into the advanced settings (even though it knows its own MAC address) i dont know where this is :(

i have no idea of any terminology, the rest of the steps i could do because i can easily find my way around my pc but when it comes to the xbox im lost :(

The dashboard is the main screens you get, with the options to view music, connect to Live etc.
Your MAC address is in the Network settings part I think, in work at the moment so can't check.
