Someone at work wants to know if it's possible to transmait a standard dial-up connection from a landline, to a laptop wirelessly? If so how? Is it the same as broadband, with routers and all that business?

Probably the best option is not WiFi, but bluetooth.

You need a bluetooth dongle for the laptop and a bluetooth modem (PC World have them for around 110 Eurons which means you will get them on the net for half that).

I did this setup for someone and it works a dream - averages a massive 49kbps most time.

I have that exact system, like karoma said u need 2 wireless NIC's in ad-hoc, the server has to be windows but the clients can be anything.

In order to control the connection you need dial on demand, or use VNC.
