ENERGIZE @ LIQUID NIGHTCLUB, BRAY, CO WICKLOW( next to D.A.R.T station)

    FRIDAY THE 17th OF FEBUARY

    Presents

OD404 "LIVE" (Superfast Oz & Dom Sweeten)

Brighton bombs OD404 have been at the forefront of cutting-edge hard music ever since they co-founded their hugely influential Kaktai label in the late 90s.

It wasn't long before they signed to the scene's then leading label Tripoli Trax and unleashed all-time hard house classics such as Block Party, Beat Dis and Let Me Tell You Something.

They have since delivered some of the biggest tracks and remixes in the history of hard dance on all of the scene's most successful stamps - Tidy Trax, Vicious Circle and Nukleuz.

Tunes such as Fireball, 9 Bar and You Ain't Winnin', and remixes of anthems such as Who Is Elvis?, Hooked, Beautiful and Street Tab.

There is little that Superfast Oz doesn't know about dance music - he spearheads the world-leading Banging Tunes online store, runs Brighton's Klik Klik Whirly Beep Beep record shop and DJs at massive events across the globe.

While production genius Dom Sweeten has delivered innumerable scorching releases in his own right as Base Graffiti and he also runs the Spinball label and the duo's recording studio.

Their latest venture is the OD404 Soundsystem Live - dubbed one of the most exciting live shows in the history of hard dance.

Don't miss your exclusive opportunity to see two genuine masters at work at Energize at Liquid on February 17th - an awesome experience awaits.

heres an interveiw from OD404 in Upfront mag late 2005

All I know is that ‘O’ is for Owen/OZ, ‘D’ is for Dom and the 404 refers to the missing Roland Synthesiser. So how did it all start?

“We were both dj’ing with the same free party sound system which did countless warehouse, beach and outdoor parties and decided to make use of our talent by trying our hand at producing. We soon realised it was we had placed on this planet for”

What does ‘live’ mean? Where do you stand on the debate that’s been surrounding “live acts for years? Where critics say dance music can never be truly “live”?

“Live means having a laugh on stage. Live is when the music is coming out of the speakers while you are there”

Your act involves using ground breaking software. Could you elaborate on this for the tech heads out there? What are your views on Ableton Live Vs Scratch Fx?

“We use Ableton Live as a basis but with some added bits and bobs. We’re working on taking some ancient analog synths out as part of our set soon and fusing it with live digital sequencing"

Who are you favourite live acts? Is there anyone out there who’s influenced your live style or you emulate when you’re on stage?

“The Orb, Prodigy and acts like the Chemical Brothers etc… also the Cheeky Girls (but you have to be right at the front).”

In an interview with Harderfaster earlier this year, you cite ‘Da Weed’ and your Kurzweil sampler as your two most precious influences. Is this the case?

“The Kurzweil sampler is still a favourite and always will be, we love, use and abuse all audio gear for all the wrong reasons"

On a recent message board ‘Whizz Bang’ was listed as the tune of the summer, by many fans, what are tune of the summer 2005

“Oz and Project Mayhem’s ‘Robocock’ has been massive”

You’re both now running the Kaktai Label (www.kaktai.com) and have big plans for it afoot. Are there any recent developments you can share for the upfront readers?

The addition of a web site is looming and our recent remix competition has been huge success and talking point. We have some excellent new material due: a new OD404 two tracker ‘daft fader/Jirgui’ is due for no.32 and coming soon a Glazby remix of a track by Defective Audio & Ed Real. Not forgetting the remix competition winning entry OD404’s ‘You ain’t winning’

Today’s Evening Standard Headline is that ‘music downloads war on High St’, yet as producers of underground music you’ve been in the war zone for years now. Do you think illegal downloading is going to completely trash the Industry or do you have any faith that things will pick up again?

“The thing that is killing the industry is an abundance of cheap, easy to use software that enabled anyone with half a compute to produce a track. This has flooded the market with a lot of badly produced material thus shortening the shelf life of the good material. Also, the big DJs have been charging too much money which has made clubs charge more money for entry, work it out… Also clubs and DJs have pidgeon holing genres to such a degree and that people have become anal about the whole scene. This seems to be the case for the Uk though as Europe and the rest of the world is still rockin!!!”
