Thyestes was a character from greek Mythology. Was this race called after a horse named thyestes? if so, who trained him, when, what did he ever win?

Thyestes was the brother of Atreus and when he tried to seduce Atreus’ wife, Aerope, he was banished by Atreus and according to the tragic poet, Aeskhylus (Aeschylus), Atreus killed all but one of Thyestes’ children and fed them to him at a feast; the only surviving child, Aigisthos, was instrumental in the murder of Atreus’ son, Agamemnon. This echoes the story of the Carberry family apparently.

I'm pretty sure I'm right about this.
