I am looking for TDK classes in Limk area - preferably an ITF club as I have trained under ITF for years. There seems to be alot of AIMAA clubs - is there much of a difference?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have an ITF TKD background and run a Kickboxing/grappling/MMA club in the University, check out the website in my signature below if your interested. There is also an AIMAA TKD club in the university, www.csn.ul.ie/~tkd which I would definitely recommend too, good crowd and Philip, the instructor, really knows his stuff.
The difference between ITF and AIMAA… well depends on the individual clubs really but primarily the difference is how the traditional stuff is done. AIMAA do it ‘old style’, without sine wave. The TKD club here in UL also regularly cross train with us in grappling/bjj.
There is also an ITF club out in LIT in Caherdavin which I used run. I don’t have the contact info but could get it if you are interested.

    Hope this helps!

Not really worried about travelling so Limerick city or county is fine. Back after a pretty serious injury and the last club I tried out had both kids and adults in the one class and while it was brilliant on the traditional side - there was rarely any sparring (never contact sparring), padwork, opportunities to go to competitions etc. I realise grading is important and enjoy that side of it but compared to the club I originally joined years ago it really falls short. So I am really open to changing club and/or association - as the politics never interested me! Also I have done kickboxing classes also in tandem with TDK and really helped my fitness so will try out your club Tim too for extra training as the fitness improves.

    Thanks for your help!

Just out of interest, what club was that?

Your best bet is to call out to UL, not much talk of politics or associations or anything else, just training. :)
