    Folks,
I'm looking for a camera bag for a Nikon D70 plus about 2/3 lens (I've only one at the moment, but naturally I plan to expand.
I'm not looking for a suitcase or anything, just something for the body, lens and a considerable bit of space for the extras.

    Any recommendations?

    I went for a Lowepro slingshot 100:
    Slingshot100_stuffed_L.jpg

Its will fit an average telezoom, 2 x prime and your main lense while on the camera, plus a flash and all the other little bits. Its a great bag because it doesnt look like a camera bag and when you need your camera fast you just swing it under your arm and open the side of the bag:

It even has a plastic cover attached that can cover the whole bag when it rains.
Also it has a place to stick a medium tripod to the front.

There is a slingshot 200 which is obviously larger but the same Idea. The 100 is about €80 in a decent shop.

I got a Lowe Pro back pack with adjustable compartments for lenses etc. It's the job really, couldn't do without it to be perfectly honest.
I don't know the model name of it but I bought it in Cork for about €40-50 or something like that, well worth it.

Edit, this is the one I got, fits my camera + 2 lenses, batteries, hoods, cables + more.

    I use a Lowepro Nova 4

Big enough(but not too big and cumbersome) for the D70 with 18-70 attached plus room for 4 or 5 more lenses.Well padded to protect equipment and has pockets for bits and bobs

    About €80

I got a LowePro MiniTrekker a few years ago, more than happy with it. Great protection, carries loads and such a good design.

Mind you, looking at that Slingshot, it looks even more handy...

I have a Lowepro nova 4 which is a great bag.

Though now that I have a laptop, can anyone recommend a backpack which would fit a dslr, about 3 lenses, flashgun, accessories etc. AND a 12 inch laptop, preferably waterproof?

I bought it in a camera shop just outside tara street station (3-4 minute walk) walking along the liffey. It was 79 euro's.

Am thinking of getting this bag. Friend is going to NY in march and it's $60 in B&H. I have a 300D with Kit lens, a canon 50 f/1.8 and a Sigma 28-300 zoom, a flashgun and various filters and bits and pieces. Will all of these fit in the slingshot 100 or would I need the slingshot 200 ?

    TIA

    Thanks for the info.
rabbitinlights, I decided to go for the LowePro Slightshot 200, which I got for £52.50 (€77) including delivery.
It'll be a tad large for the first while, but hopefully the lenses will fill it up in time.

Seems like it would be only sensible to go for the 200 as the 100 looks like it may just be big enough for 1 extra lens plus a flash. Would you recommend this site for purchasing and service?

I'm not sure, this is my first time buying from them. If you give me a week, I'll be able to tell you.
Just got the usual receipt by e-mail etc, with a "As a new user at the Digital Camera Company we are offering you the first 15 6"x4.5" top quality gloss prints free from our online printing partner Photodeal!" tacked at the end.

Thats a great price for the 200, I paid more for the 100!! The 100 is perfect for me as it has to go inside a rucksack while travelling!! Let us know how you get on with the site and how the bags works out!

Don't seem to be able to track the Slingshot 100 down in town, Jessops said they wouldn't have any until March, so maybe buying online is best?

    Cheaper and handier, why not?

Sinecurea, did you get it yet? Any use?

Got it alright. I don't think I'll ever used the "swing under your arm" thing, as it's a bit tight and too much hassle. The handle-thingy seems a bit odd, like it's designed for a right handed person, which I am not...

sorry if this has been said already.. but where did you buy the 100? and how much?

    cheers

what's the accomodation like? is there enough room for a body with lens, 2 extra lenses, flash, bits and pieces?

Yep, enough space for all those. There's plenty of flaps and holes for keeping stuff in. To you would expect, velcro keeps the dividers in place etc.

Trying to register on the site but there's no option for the Republic of Ireland...maybe phoning them would be better.

Yeah, they'll probably be able to help you out by talking to them, rather than a computer interface.

Guy on the phone said they don't send goods outside of the UK, they had problems with European credit cards.

Hmm, ordered the Slingshot 100 from Jessops about 6 or more weeks ago, no sign of it yet, anyone seen it around town (just in case)? Might just go for another model if they can't get it in...

Yeah - they have it in the great outdoors , Conns Cameras and the one on Dawson street.

Would the Sligshot 100 accomodate a camera with a vertical grip fitted and a lense, 2 additional lenses and a flashgun?
    Thanks
    L

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,196 ✭✭✭PaulieC

It would be a bit tight for that. I have my camera (caon 300d) with 28-105 lens in the main bit. I also have a 50mm prime lens (although this sectionc ouls hold something a lot bigger, and a flash. I guess you could squeeze it all in, but you may be better off going for the 200?

    Gunn's are €68.00 for the 100 and €80.00 for the 200

    Hi,
I'm also looking for a camera bag, I just got a Nikon D70s so have very little stuff to but in a bag at the moment. I was looking at the lowpro stuff in the Blanch centre and it all seemed to be very crushable. I thought there would be a hard plastic shell or something. Is this just the standard for these bags are they good enough with just the foam? Is the slingbag the same?

    Thanks
    Dave

thats a good question Dave, I'm looking into buying a Nikon D70s - do the other bags mentioned provide enough protection for the camera when travelling, planes, getting bumped about.. i want to look after the camera when i get it.
