Out of a series of 76 sngs (50 and 100) over the last week or so im 40.76 ITM which should be in profit, but out of that im only 3 wins 10 seconds and 18 thirds.(9.. 4th)Cant make my mind up whether i should go more aggressive or less when down to 3 . i have tried both during theses games.I know its a small sample but i must be doing something wrong here.Any ideas on the best stategy?

18 3rds but just 9 4ths might mean the problem lies with how you play when you get to the last 4, not how you play when theres 3 left.

Do you find yourself sitting back, not making moves etc when theres 4 left, hoping that 2 others will go h2h allowing you into 3rd. This can work, but generally leaves you very shortstacked when you get to the last 3.

I think that your statement "Cant make my mind up whether i should go more aggressive or less when down to 3" is exactly your problem. You need to make your mind up on a hand by hand basis how the table is playing and how best you can take advantage of that at this particular stage of the tournament. You need to continuosly shift between the two.

At this stage of a tournament the cards that are dealt to you are much less important than they were in the opening levels. It becomes a lot more important to recognise what type of play will be profitable for you and what type will cost you money. If you can find a play that can generate a positive income for you per orbit then you are less likely to let yourself get caught in a hand that you dont need to be in and thus will find your 2nd's and 1st's increasing in frequency.

Let me know if I'm making any sense or if I just sound like a rambling idiot.

You shouldn't be making a predefined strat as said.
I'd base my decisions on the hands that are getting dealt to me when I’m in the last 3 and also base it on the players that are playing at the table..

    Makes sense to me Rodge!

Players who say "I play aggressive" or "I prefer to play passively" confuse me. Its like saying " I'm going to play a soccer game and I'm going to stand exactly *here*. If the ball comes to me I'm sure to score but in the mean time you, my opponent, know exactly where I am and can run around me whenever you like."
Consider position, player, pot and stacks every hand would be my advice. Also I find it useful to steal the last blind of every level, most people dont realise that the 160/320 level is about to end and you are entering the 320/640 crapshoot. Get theiving early! :)

Agree with dev here I always try to steal the last blind of a level if I have a decent playable hand or I assume I have some live cards to a decent raise in front of me. Normally by reraising the initial raiser and betting out on the flop half the size of the pot, normally scares people. if the reraise didn't get you the blinds there and then.

Btw I wouldn't attempt this if I was say ss with only about 5 blinds left in me.
