Ok, it's along the same lines as the '5 things...' post, but here goes.

Had this arguement today on in History ...
It'd be true to say we're all proud to be Irish right?

But let's say (example) you're on holidays somewhere and you're mistaken for being British. I'm assuming most people would be slightly offended.

Then it gets you thinking, we don't have much to back it up (if we're honest about it). I mean, what sets us apart?

Except for our native language and games, what do we have that's unique?

    Answer : not much.

    Any thoughts?

I tend to agree with that to some extent. However, I believe that a lot of us aren't particularly proud to be Irish.

Unfortunately our native language is hated by many in this country and is unlikely to become widely spoken. That and Gaelic games, as well as traditional Irish music are things that set us apart to an extent. I think the Irish are generally quite funny and have a good sense of humour (e.g. lots of Irish comics doing well in overseas as well as here), and we're good story/joke tellers.

I feel we've lost some of our cultural identity in recent years and it's being more and more eroded as the years go on. Hopefully this trend will reverse.
