    No its not a weird sexual fetish, how come you see some powerlifters with chains, bands etc hanging from their weights. Why not just add more plates or is it to encourage a more manly (grr) weightlifting session?

    The chains and bands give a continuing rise in poundage, eg. when squatting the bar is lower to the ground and so more of the chain is resting on the ground, when you come out of the hole you are increasing the poundage gradually adding resistance.
    Used for speed strength and acceleration.
    I think thats the jist of it, but I'd say theres a lot more involved.
