Faulty throttle control on 01 punto ELX

I bought a 01 Punto with 30,000 miles on it on November 1st 2005, it had no NCT on it, but the sales guy guaranteed it would pass, it had a service and I got one years warranty.

I had the NCT on Saturday and it failed because they couldn't perform the emissions test as the car wouldn't hold at one rev count, the tester told me the throttle control was faulty.

And the drivers side dipped light was set too low to even register on the computer that tests the calibration of your lights.

I just rang Carroll Kinsella where I bought the car, and was told they have to get the managers go-ahead to take the car in to fix the problems?

Bear in mind i've done about 400Km in the car since I got it, and have had to replace the battery.

A> Surely if they're reputable, and considering I have a one year warranty, they shouldn't have to hesitate over taking my car in to repair these faults?

B> If it's illegal to drive a car that has no NCT, surely it's illegal to have sold me a car that needed it's NCT?

C> Is there anything else that could be causing the throttle problem other than an issue with the ECU?

Dust particles that get into the fuel throttle system can cause the engine to cut out. This isnt a tough thing to fix, as I had the same problem with my Bora engine (1.6l SR engine ). I think all that had to be done was to get this system drained and cleaned out. Not a big job they should deffo do it for free :)

The engine isn't cutting out, but I do have to give a lot more gas when moving off in 1st gear recently.

Still waiting to hear back from the dealers...

the toyota warranty specifically excludes batteries. but the engine problem and headlight should be fixed for free.

I didn't have a problem replacing the battery myself, it was just a bit irritating when i'd only had the car 2 months.

I'm dropping the car in on Wednesday so they can 'have a look'. They better fix it without kicking up a fuss, I got a bit of a reluctant vibe off the aftersales guy who rang me today.

I'll take a stab at diagnosing the problem...

8v the throttle body was dirty

16v the ecu plug going into the car as faulty or the connector block on the throttle was dirty
