Haunted Edinburgh

    Hey everyone,

I'm just back from a weekend in Edinburgh and whilst there I went on one of the many ghost tours. We went into a graveyard where they brought us into a locked part of the graveyard, where apparently its so haunted that they locked it up 8 years ago. Anyway as much as I wanted to believe, I was sceptical by the end, especially when an employee of the tour jumped out to scare everyone, when apparently we were in a seriously haunted tomb.

I guess what I wanted to know is if anyone else has been on this tour(think its called City of the Dead) and if anyone knows is it all made up or is it true? Also, if they locked up a part of the graveyard because it was potentially dangerous, why on earth would they give the key to a company who are going to bring in bunches of tourists...is it just to scam gullible tourists like myself out of a tenner.

    Maggz

I've been on the tour, and its for real, have a look for there website (i dont have the link now). That tour are the only people allowed in and were given keys by the church attached to the kirkyard.

Its the Mackenzie Poltergiest in there, i've been to ediburgh alot and the locals knbow the place well. I have also read the book written by the guy who started the tours "The Ghost that Haunted itself".

There has been alot of coverage of this place over the years.

a woman collapsed when we got outside but her husband caught her, I personally "felt" that someone was sneering at me.

They have had 189 people collapse as far as i know, the guys giving the tour are excellent, yes they do "act" a bit but thats to keep it light hearted. Did you go on a Mercat Tour? very good also.

No that was the only tour I did. There are so many, its hard to know which ones are cheesy tourist rubbish and which ones are good. It's really a spooky city, isn't it?

Thats the link to the tours site. GreyFriars Kirkyard was on FOX's Worlds Scariest Places along with our own Charleville castle.

I went on the tour where they bring you to the South Bridge Poltergeist and I'm fully convinced that it was a hoax. That was the one where the tour guide jumps out at you inside the "haunted" tomb.
