Does anyone know the answer to this one ?
I've got a HSS guitar with SD pickups in it. I only use bridge and neck picups so obviously the middle pickup is a waste. I love the sound of the neck pickup and would like the same sound from another guitar. Can the middle pickup be removed and put into the neck position of another guitar? I know it's wound in reverse to cancel hum

Ya it can be installed alright. The hum cancellation only comes into effect when you are using 2 pickups.

I doubt you will get the same sound out of another guitar with that pick up though. Go for it and see how it sounds, and report back :)

yeah i know about the hum cancelling. The middle pickup is reverse wound so does it need to be installed upside down if i put it in the neck position?

No. If the pickup is like the strat single coils then the pickup should be the same way round. Just dont use the pickup selector setting that uses middle and neck together. Well, it might be ok. bit more buzz maybe. We will find out when you do it :)

depends on the polarity of the other pickup in the guitar.

If it's opposite polarity then just drop stright in, if it's the same polarity then drop it straight in aswell, except you won't get hum cancelling.

It also depends which way the coils are wound- you may have to swap the wires around to get an in phase sound.

In the other guitar theres only going to be a bridge humbucker. I only use positions 1 and 5 on a strat anyway.
So it doesn't matter if the pickup is installed either way? ...i suspected the pole pieces were wound depending on the string.
