New SMS recording facility for Sky+ boxes
Owners of the Sky+ personal video recorder will soon be able to record programmes by simply sending a text message to Sky. The new 'SMS record' facility is scheduled to be launched this Spring. No pricing details have yet been released. Meanwhile, Sky has also said that Sky+ customers will be able to add programmes to their personal planners by pressing the 'green' button on their remotes during trailers. [Jan 22]

    Nice....

For those with a PC PVR and a spare Nokia phone with a serial cable, then you can SMS to your own PC. Some programming expertise needed. Free programming interface from Nokia. I did link to SQL Server, Fax and Email services on a small company network Server.

Good idea of Sky's I wonder how much they will charge?

I just think its hilarious (or not) that we automatically assume and accept that when Sky improve the service we should pay more for it! Or maybe its just we know theyre going to charge and we cant do anyhing about it...!

I mean we're paying for the service in the first place; any imporvements should surely be just that; improvements. Which meant it wasnt quite perfect in the first place. I suppose its pointless....!

    search nokia's web site.
Needs expertise in VB, C++, C# or whatever.
Nokia charge a lot for a serial cable. One out of a Data Becker SW pack that lets you do stuff with phone 45 Euro worked fine.

I think we all know that Sky would never add a feature that if they thought they could'nt make money from it. This is a handy feature, but we all know that Sky will try and squeeze every last cent out of us. But, as a monopoly and governement in two lands cant be arsed to say boo to them.

I presume it will be a premium rate text number.
