not sure if this has been done or not but i couldnt find a thread on it so...

just wondering, i wanted to know why so many girls think its sex to put an inch thick of make-up on everyday before they go out of the house or even before they leave their bedroom. now alot of girls will reply oh i dont do that i only put a little on....

... well your perception of little and everyone else's must be different. its a bit ridiculous if you ask me. a little would be ok but even at that ya dont have to wear it everyday.[its bad for your skin anyway]

if you think about it, nobody truely knows what you even look like. take that nadine from girls aloud, i mean does she fall into a frickin box of the stuff everyday?

anyway what are your thoughts and what do other girls think about girls like this...

Think I am one of the few who nevers wear make-up. Nothing at all - not even mascara. Can't stand the stuff. It feels horrible on my skin. The only thing I put on my face is cold water...I can see why others do though. It makes you look totally different but as the saying goes " less is more"

Maybe you're blessed with a beautiful face, some girls aren't.

I think some lads are jealous they can't wear makeup ;) IMO...

For me makeup is a way of accentuating my features rather than concealing imperfections... But it is true that some women go a little ott on the war paint

    I don't get it either.
Especially since it doesn't cover anything.

If you have a spotty face, yeah, that's right....we can still see your spots under your make up.

    indeed.

spots? bad skin? changing yourself into an oopma loopma doesn't make you magically attractive to all men. also, it makes your skin MUCH MUCH worse in the long-term. say hello to anti-aging cream at 25

Ever see the orange faces like the guys from Charlie and the chocolate factory?how come the ladies with the golden orange faces never apply the same colour to their very pale necks?they are fooling no one! :D

I have been bullied by women from the 1inch warpaint brigade in the past. One of the girls finally admitted that they wear it to hide bad skin. For me I do not feel the need to wear the heavy stuff, I would only wear it if I had bad skin to hide imperfections but I am lucky so far. I do wear lipstick and eyeshaddow most days and sometimes wear mascara but that is it. What you see from me when I get up in the morning (bar brushing my hair) is who I am and I feel happier that way. I do get complements about my skin from male friends and close female friends. I do feel that makeup has its place but there should not be an onus to wear it.

A pretty girl is gonna look nice without the makeup.
A small amount of make up thats done correctly can really add to a girls looks imo.

It cant however make an "ugly" girl pretty.

so many girls use makeup as a mask to hide not only their imperfections but also themselves. i know so many people who transform, not in looks but in personality when they wear makeup. their confidence is boosted and they become more open and outgoing. they develop an unhealthy dependance on it becase of this and end up wearing more and more.
personally i cant stand the stuff and feel like my face is dirty or something when wear it, so i dont and feel much fresher as a result!

The stuff absolutly turns my stumach. There is nothing more revolting than some absolute minger with what looks like paste, smeared all over her face. Even worse are those with a face like a pizza covered in the stuff. They have a mask of spots covered in a mask of paint. It's horrible just even thinking about it. It's also very sad seeing someone you know with a naturally pretty face apply too much of the stuff following the trends. People who abuse makeup, fake tan and the like should be fined or even jailed!

  • I don't wear it often myself, because of the reasons others mentioned. Takes too long in the morning, looks like a mask and clogs your skin. I totally understand why people do it though. I used to have mild acne which looked better with a bit of foundation on, so I used it, and it never cleared up. It was a vicious circle.

Some girls look really pretty with it on though, it really enhances their features if they put it on well. However most people put it on badly and too thick.

Maybe that was the case years ago but i always find my skin looks way better after wearing foundation for the day.Foundations these days are full of antioxidants for the skin and also spf's.My lancome foundation has sun protection factor of 10 which is needed even on a winters day if you wanna keep the wrinkles at bay.

I want to ask the ladies something...do you all genuinly believe that if you have spots or acne of any degree, that amke up actually covers it up?
Because anyone with half an eye can still see it.

i am v attracted to girls who wear very little or no make up, also even sexier if they wear glasses for some reason, how many times have i gone into a bank and seen this girl caked in muckup, but the side of their face and neck is 7 shades lighter, so glad i'm a man. i know women are smarter than us but fcuk it we win in a lotta ways

For women who would like to use make up, please buy a shade that is the closest to your own skin. this way you avoid the orange face/white neck and hairline look. Plus they show off spots not hide them.

Concealer should be used for dark circles under your eyes, and blemishes. these are those odd red rash like things that appear from no where, they are not spots. If you are having a spot crisis, treat it before you go to bed and allow air at it during the day if possible.

Lip liner, choose a shade thats closest to your lipstick to avoid the trout mouth look.

Mascara and eyeliner - keep it natural as possible, unless you are going out for the evening, then you can darken it a little. Do not allow mascara to gather as it joins and sticks and looks sh.ite tbh.
    Remove, apply, remove, apply...

My skin is quite pale so I use ivory shades if I wear any at all.
    Vaseline, carmax and lip gloss.
Natural collections mascara to flatter the eyes.

Keep it natural for god sake, they aren't looking at you because they think your lovely looking, they are looking because they are wondering if you have to blow torch it off at night.

have to agree with whoever said make up irritated them. i hate the feeling of heavy makeup, feels like i cant breath. i wear some tinted moisturiser most days though which is really good for the skin too.

I have to agree with most of these comments. A surprising amount of women don't know how to apply make-up. They pick a colour that is a shade darker than their skin colour because they think it will give them a "tanned" effect, but it just gives them an orange glow instead (oompa loompa, doompadee-doo).
They don't seem to realise that less is more. And I know this is harsh, but it's the truth: if you're a minger, then no amount of make-up is going to make you look attractive. So don't bother piling it on.
What bugs me most is the plucked eyebrows. I totally agree if you have bushy masculine eyebrows, then it's ok to trim them. But not when you try to create an entirely different un-natural eyebrow line, and you can see the original line underneath. And even worse, when the eyebrow is totally removed and drawn on with a pencil.

    Michael Jackson, semi-normal?
No that's the funniest post of the week!

On topic, makeup should be banned. It's just unfair. It makes ugly girls look average, average girls look good etc. This means you can pull what seems to be a good lookin girl on a night out (combination of makeup and beer) and then the next day she turns out to be a minger. At least with girls pullin guys they always know what they're gettin. They're not gonna wake up beside somethin that barely resembles what they went ot bed with.

Either a girl is good lookin or she isn't. Makeup is just cheatin!

The ONLY time I wear make up is when in the pub on a Fri or Sat night. At all other times I wear absolutely no makeup whatsoever, & I look like absolute sh!te!!!! But I don't give a damn.

If I wore makeup all the time I wouldn't feel in any way special when I did get dressed up for a night out, plus I get so many comments from people about how fantastic I look when I'm out because they're just used to seeing me from day to day.

When I am wearing makeup, it's very very light. I hate caked on stuff & black eyeliner etc. Less is definitely more!!
I remember one night I let my sis do my makeup & she put SO much crap on my eyes that I felt I could barely open them.

    Why do girls do this????

I hear ya! I'm the exact same...only time I ever wear make-up is going out somewhere; it adds to the occasion: getting dressed up and looking special, and people notice that you've put in the effort and compliment you. I never wear make-up during regular hours. Firstly, it needs to be applied correctly to look in any way decent, which takes time, which I don't have. Secondly, what's the point?! What's the point of caking yourself in make-up if what you're going to be doing for the day (for me anyway) is sitting in a lecture/tutorial/library/having coffee. I don't need to look extra pretty for those activities! And thirdly, I always feel like my skin is "blocked" when I'm wearing make-up, I much prefer not having any on. Some girls just go a little OTT with the decorations.

Reminds me of my ex supervisor. Bleached blonde hair that looked brittle and fine (not fine as in nice) matched with a remarkably orange face which was made up of fake tan and ample makeup. A combination that works very well with blue eyeshadow.

What I can't understand is how said person got up every morning and looked at herself going out the door probably thinking what a gorgeous woman she was. It's tragic. She would actually BE alright if she calmed down on the face paint.

yeah tis sad how some girls think that caking that crap on their face makes them look better. When IMO, the au naturel look is a million times better than the oompa loompa look.

I work in make-up and just to say no I don't look like a drag queen or have orange skin! I'm actually really pale and am told a lot of time it doesnt look like Im wearing any foundation at all.

Girls cake themselves in make-up normally because they have low self esteem and the layer of make-up is a barrier against people/the world.

I think women look at other women and feel if they were the same foundation or shade of eyeshadow they'll look just as good. They see something in a magazine that looks good and think it will look the same on them. Most of the time it doesn't. It depends on your skintone, hair colour, age etc.

I don't think people should be slating girls who have skin problems who wear make-up. Having a little foundation will help tone down the redness and not make it as noticeable. Obviously you can still see the bumps but it will give them a little bit of confidence.

What really gets to me is when I get young girls in with gorgeous skin but who want to cover it up because they hate their freckles.

Make-up should be used to enhance your best features and not conceal your face. I do think that a lot of Irish women are useless when it comes to putting on make-up. I don't know where they get the idea that a foundation 2 or 3 shades darker than their skin looks good. I repeat it everyday Im in work "You're better to get a foundation that is nearest to your skintone and warm it up with blusher or bronzer". I have changed a good few peoples habits in make-up but theres some you can't budge!!!

First decent post on this thread! of course foundation and concealer covers spots!Cameron diaz has an awful acne problem but she covers it really well with the right foundation.Obviously if you use some cheap rimmel stuff it'l look bad but something like dior airbrush foundation can make your skin look amazing when your having a spot outbreak. Anywho if it gives someone a bit of confidence then it can only be a good thing. It always makes me laugh when i read on these sorta thread 'my girlfriend wears far too much make up or fake tan'. It obviously didnt put you off and i wonder if you'd be going out with her if she didnt have that extra little bit of an ego boost from wearing her fake tan or foundation.

Im with Xzanti if you apply makeup properly it makes you look better rather than covering you up. I wear a little everyday. I dont wear foundation just concealer and a bit of powder than a bit of eyeliner and a lick of mascara 2 minute job in the mornign but it makes me look much better and I feel better too!

Well you didn't look too hard ! This along with the fake tan debate is alive and well most days a week on Fash and App. Make up can be great, if properly chosen and well applied. I couldn't be persuaded otherwise. The vast majority of blokes can't really tell the difference between a 'natural' beauty and one with well applied make-up in the right proportions. It can and does do wonders; however it gotta be the right brand and the right colour and applied correctly.

I have to say, coming from a girl with 'fair features' I don't 'slather' it on.....

I have quite a prominent 'forcep' mark on my forehead. Without the wonders of concealing makeup I am very much self conscious about it.

So, I am normally wearing makeup whilst out in public.......

I think it makes me a more confident person......it enhances my features and hell, I don't apply it with a spade.

People would actually wear darker foundation than their skin colour? maybe it's just me liking my pale skin, but I always match my foundation to it! Palest foundation from any make, thanks.
I rarely wear makeup. When I go to a club (whch is oncein a blue moon) or some special occasion where I feel like wearing it, yeah.
Oh and whatever about foundation, concealer certainly does work to hide spots and I don't think it clogs up your face so much. If foundation isn't working, foundation+concealer, yarr.

A lot of people do go around looking so orange though, it's a bit sad...

and then you throw in the bad fashion =/
