Hi, hope I can get some quick help. I have a Dell Dimension 5000. It has 7 usb ports, 2 firewire ports and only two pci slots; both of which are being used.

I want to increase the number of usb ports while retaining the two firewire ports. What I need to know is if the Sunsway/ST Lab PCI USB2.0/FireWire Combo ,2x FireWire (6-pin),3x USB 2.0.. is 100% guaranteed compatible with my pc?

If not, can anyone suggest a similar combo that will definitely work out of the box?

    Regards

    Wilo

Get a USB hub off ebay, cheaper and guaranteed to work

I had thought of that. However, there is very little difference in price...believe it or not! If I use a powered Hub am I right in saying that I can only use one device at a time???

The neatness of the Combo firewire/usb card is more appealing if the above is compatible....or if not, I can find one that is compatible.

I will keep looking for the moment. Can anyone help?

    Regards.

I would need a better guarantee than that. Purchased a Startech and subsequently a Belkin IEEE 1394 firewire card from PC World....none would work on my Dimension!!!! Was forced to purchase an inferior card from Dell.

Has anyone tried to successfully install a firewire/usb combo card on their Dimension 5000?:
