Can anyone reccommend a good, well located, mid range hotel in Delhi??....having real difficulty finding one!!Everything seems to cost either 200 a night with goodish reviews (out of the budget!) or around 50 a night with awful reviews!!..with very little in between!!Can pay up to around 100 a night ...any help appreciated.

    Hey,

I don't know if you mean rupees or dollars or what, but I can recommend the Rak on Tooti chowk in Paharganj. Might be out of your budget at around Rs500 for a double room, but that's still less than ten euro. It's clean, convenient and central, and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately one of the bombs in New Delhi last October was planted right outside - the hotel was damaged, but I believe it's open again.

Well then you're grand! Rolling in it! With that kind of a budget you could stay in a palace. I don't know what level of comfort you're looking for but the Rak is perfectly clean as I mentioned. All rooms en suite, cable TV, hot water, all mod cons. It's mid-range as far as tourist hotels are concerned... you could probably get a single room for Rs100 - 200 but it would probably be fairly grotty.

I guess it really depends on whether or not you want to stay in Paharganj after those bombings. It's tourist central, but there's a great vibe about the place and it's right next to the train station.

    Enjoy your trip, anyway.

    Hi Twinkletoes

Your budget is huge by Indian standards and should provide you with a very high standard. I was staying in places that cost £2-£5 per night but that was a few years ago. Have you been to New Delhi before? It can be quite intimidating upon arrival. If you are getting a taxi to your hotel you need to be quite assertive. The drivers will try to bring you to a hotel where they will get commission and will tell you that your hotel of choice is closed/rat infested/dirty etc. You need to put your foot down and insist he brings you where you want to go. The meter also strangely seems to be out of order when a western person hires it! Agree the fare before leaving the airport (I'm presuming you are arriving via air). Sorry I can't recommend any hotels as I haven't been there in a while. Good luck.
