trains are fine, my girlfriend is polish, ive been to poland 3 times in the last year or so, never had any trouble, nor would i expect to, the people are very nice but obviously just dont flash the cash around in poor neighbourhoods etc, get out of warsaw and head to krakow as quick as possible though, its not a great city at all, krakow is where its at :)

just head to the main square (market square) and eat, drink or shop for dirt cheap! its just such good value for money, theres loads of amazing architecture around too, just go and see for yourself, youll defo have a good time

Yeah Krakow is regarded as the better city of the two to visit. I was there last summer with my lovely Polish girlfriend who showed me the sights! Attached are a few pictures to give you an idea of what Krakow is like. If your a tourist it's great, there are loads of great places to eat, shop and visit.

If you go to Krakow you HAVE to go to a place called Morskie Oko. Definetly the most amazing piece of scenery I have ever seen in my life. A hard slog to get there, but absolutely worth it. If you do go there, you have to go to Zakopane first, and that is cool all by itself. We had intended to go just for the day, but ended up staying two nights.

If you don't look at any other picture I've attached, have a look at the one of Morskie Oko.

Edit: Skip Warsaw- it really isn't that interesting. Visit Krakow, Morskie Oko, Wieliczka and Oswiecim (Auschwitz).

now all i have to do is convince my friend warsaw is a waste of time!- she really wants to go but theres no point wasting time!

Ahh I have some good news for you- June is when that picture was taken!!!

Morskie Oko is an 8km trek up the side of a mountain! We took a horse and cart up, it was cool, the guide was quaint and all the way up the horse farted, and it's not a nice smell I can tell you- but it was great craic! You get off at the top and it's about another 15 minutes on foot and all the while your thinking- 'Is this really worth it?', and then you see that view- WOW. Anywhoo there's a restaurant at the top and you can have a beer and hot food.

PS- All the way up you've got cool views as your going up the side of a mountain, forests and streams all around you!

For tourists Poland is dirt cheap, and I mean dirt cheap. We were out one night in her city and had a 12" pizza each and two cokes for €5. When you get to Krakow, there are minibuses outside the train station and they'll take you to the various area's of interest around there. We took the one to Zakopane. To go to Morskie Oko we got another minibus near the bus station. There are signs in the front of the window's where each bus is going. You shou;d manage OK. And the fares everywhere are pretty cheap.

Is anywhere safe? No and yes. This has to be the most ignorant question asked of anyone going anywhere. Sorry to be harsh. But I can imagine people over the world now thinking, Thailand's not safe, Americans thinking Ireland wasn't safe during the troubles.

There's parts of New York, London and Dublin you just don't go to. I assume the same is true for anywhere in Poland.
