Just swapped out my cpu for a new one and now the pc won't boot. I put a new cooler on it too. First couple of times I tried to boot it got to windows and as it was loading up the mouse frooze and a humming sound started to come from the speakers. I can get into the BIOS fine and I loaded the optimized defaults. After a few restarts it doesn't manage to load windows fully. It then asked to load windows normally etc so I tried safe mode to find pretty much the same thing happened. This sounds like a heat issue to me but the thing is the BIOS reports the temps at around 30C which is definately cool enough . Really lost on this one.

is the mother board running at the same fsb as the cpu?

I set it to 200mhz in the BIOS before I let it boot the first time, then I loaded optimized defaults so I presume so yes.

I must say I had a similar problem, once and had to reinstall win,

Can you boot a linux live cd just to rule out windows.

Hmmm - It's booted up fine now and I'm using it. Temps are good too. I changed the FSB to 222mhz - I think the MSI app. core centre was OCing by 11% every time I booted and the cpu couldn't handle such a jump??? That doesn't really explain to me the freezes before windows fully loaded though.
