So because we're Irish we dare not have views about important people in Irish History that do not portray them as Gods?

    yes..........................and your point is?!?!?!!??!?!?!??!?!?

Are you trying to say that Irish people openly agree with murder??!?!?! Because that's a terrible generalisation to start! I for one don't. :D

And if you are disputing my re-naming of Michael Collins, there is nothing to be disputed. There are factual inaccuracies in the film (such as DeV's whereabouts at Béal na mBláth...never proved he was in the vicinity) and Michael Collins did order the murders of the British secret service who were present in Ireland in November 1920 ("Bloody Sunday"). Historical truth cannot be denied, historical interpretation can never be disputed.

OP, to keep you happy, here's another....

ah, but who decided that it was, in fact, actually war rather than ruthless acts of murder, by both sides (before you jump down my throat!)? That in itself is entirely disputable and worthy of a debate in its own right. As I said, different interpretations of history lead to different views, but one must strive to be objective in the presentation of historical facts - something which the film was not.

The war of independace was a war of murder. I would call shooting someone in their bathtub infront of a loved one or shooting someone as they leave a church murder.

that was my point... not whether what Collins/DeV/British government did was right or wrong.

The film in itself has many inaccuracies that bend the truth so that a non-objective portrayal is given, which obscures the viewer from making his own judgment.

The accuracy of the armourced vehicle entering Croke Park is dismissed; DeV's sanctioning of Collins' murder is also historically unproven... Both of these inaccuracies deliberately lead the viewer more towards empathy for Collins and the Republican movement. Also, by the deliberate ommision of Collins' part in the preparations for the murders of members the British secret service it does not give a fair view of the lengths to which he went. The deliberate killing of another, call it what you will - assasination, murder, homocide - is not justified, whether it be in war or not.

we are never gonna agree on this cos i think 800 years of tyranny and starvation led to this and in my mind it was justified by the fact that I dont live under british rule but thats just my opinion.....

I'm not arguing whether it was justified or not at all! I'm merely pointing out the actual truth that there are inaccuracies in the film, 'Michael Collins' which obscure the objectivity of the film and render it impossible for the viewer to come to his own judgement.

However, this is exorbitantly off-topic so we'll agree to disagree (even though I'm not actually disagreeing with you as such because I wasn't making an argument :D)

OP - we've stopped gatecrashing your thread now; muchos apologies :o

ah, but who decided that it was........war.

The English when they invaded other countries.

It was ok for the French to kill Germans in WW2 or for the Poles/Austrians etc to fight back, but not the Irish?

Before anyone startsI'm not pro Ira (the sooner all that ****e up there is sorted and they all cop them selves on the better) or anti English (I do all the usuall ie I support Liverpool and will actually be supporting England in the WC)
