Water Connection

I need to excavate a trench for a water connection to the house (about 25M from road). Anyone any idea of a suitable depth so that the pipe will not freeze? Should I bed it in sand or just refill the trench with earth. Is it necessary to insulate the pipe underground?

    Thanks
