We've got an small fileserver from dell which is about 18 months old - and the fans in it are quite noisy - even more noticeable since all the shiney no noise desktops have arrived this week.

Just looking for some recommendations for some nice ultra quiet fans to replace the current ones - the fans will have to be good at cooling as there are 4x harddrives running on a RAID set in it.

Servers tend to be noisey. Have you cleaned the fans. A little grease on the bearings works wonders.
If they are hot-swappable I *think* you can only get them from Dell.

It's not a typical server machine in rack mounted sense - it's a desktop-like box with a few extra fans on it...

They can have hot-swappable fans too.

Did you put extra fans inside, or did Dell? Is it an actual "server" or a desktop
    machine?
What I said previously about grease and dust still holds true.

It is a "server" machine - that's what we bought it as.

The fans have been cleaned when I upgraded it to a RAID array - but the sound is the same as it was the first time we turned it on apart from the new hard-drives now being silent and all we can hear are the fans in an otherwise silent office!

I don't know the fans are hot-swappable or not... I may have to investigate this with dell.
