Basic Sky install & extra cabling questions

Ok, almost certainly going to go for the basic Sky package for my own room at home which of course includes free installation.

Thinking of getting another digibox and FTV card for the parents tv in the living room.

If I was to get a Quad LNB from satellite.ie, how open are the installers to using this and running an extra cable to the living room, obviously for a cost, or are they forbidden to do any extra cabling by Sky?

Also, does paying the extra charge to get a non-phone line install of the basic system still apply?

Does this apply to Sky+ too or do you have to have a phone line connected for it to work?

No moral or privacy objections, just running an extra phone line to my room would be a bit awkward.

Thanks for all the help so far. You guys are incredibly knowledgeable about all this kind of stuff for newbies like me. ;)

Sky direct guys are not paid very well so i'd say they would be open to earning a bit extra

Desktop PC Boards discount code on https://www.satellite.ie/ is boards.ie

Sky since the beginning of this year have been very strict concerning a no phone line (npl) installation. You can now only get this if you agree to have a phone line installed within 6 weeks of getting the sky system installed otherwise you pay €300 or something about that figure which I have heard several sky operators quote customer's. The system is only there to facilitate customers whom have only moved into new houses. Regarding extra cabling, if the installer is in house with sierra he probably wont do it because they are not allowed to collect money for extra work from customer's, and if they do it must be handed in to sierra. Non of it goes into their pocket's. On the other hand, if it's a sub contractor working under sierra, yes they will do the extra work.Mostly all counties have been taken over by sub contractor's apart from Dublin and Wicklow which is still run by Sierra.

I met one guy here that subcontracts to Sky, Chorus and Digiweb!

Reasonable I suppose as it is all coax cable, wall brackets and small antennas. Though he thought the Metro signal went down the coax (it doesn't the "aerial panel has equivalent of satellite 2 way gs inside it, converting VHF to/from 10.2 and 10.5 GHz .. similar to sat frequencies).

I have a broken metro flat aerial. I shall wire it to an LNB direct and see what sky reception is like on a 30cm x 30cm square 10.5GHz flat array aerial.

Does this mean that their NPL offer of 37.50EUR has been dropped?

Not just yet, but it does appear as though it is being phased out, slowly.
