I happen to be in Germany at the moment and I've seen a Hama sat in-line amplifier, gain 20dB, frequency response 950-2250 MHz in a shop for ~12EUR

What does this do? Will it amplify a signal, e.g. partially blocked by trees; if the dish is slightly misaligned; or in rainy conditions?

No, The signal on LNB is 10.7GHz to 12.6GHz band

The LNB is first stage of the receiver really. The coax cable carries a different signal. (techincally tunable IF).

The amplifier is for feeding a very long cable run that has more than 20dB loss.

If would be as usefull as amplifiying the SCART or Digibox RF out if the signal to the LNB is too low.

So no way of getting a better signal through the bloody vegetation that allows me no more than 70% with the Lidl kit (80cm)... when there are no leaves on the trees, that is? I then have to swap to Turksat for some football and F1... :o

    Thanks anyway!

    ladder & saw.

But only to trim branches. You need a council permit to cut down ANY tree over 10 years old.. Even invisible from everyone else in your own orchard.
