    Hello all,
I am trying to figure out the feckin licensing crap from Microsoft. I have XP on my pc but all i want to know is can I install in on another machine and activate it successfully or does it have to re-registered? There is so much bullshít in the Microsoft EULA that I cant make head nor tail of it! I dont want to try in case I invalidate it and end up calling MS support... I cant believe I own this s.w and MS make you jump through hoops.... nearly as bas a Half Life 2 Steam but dont get me started on that! :D Cheers...

I've seen it said elsewhere that each licence allows an install on 2 machines - for the desktop/laptop argument. So you should be ok.

    Don't quote me though.

Yup, for most copys of XP you are allowed to install it on 2 machines, thats why you have 2 stickers :).

There you go then. Those geniuses at MS think of everything.

Windows - one license per PC.

OEM - one license locked to specific hardware.
upgrades also hardlocked to the same hardware, except if you put it in software assurance contract within the first 90 days of getting it

SOME retail/corporate version of Office/Project/Frontpage allow the primary user to install a copy on their laptop, but no one can use the desktop in the mean time.

How come I never have to reactivate after installing XP Pro?

I've used the same copy on various pc's The one below being my 6th) through the last 2 years and I've never been asked to reactivate.

As far as I know the windows activation resets after 4 months. which means you can install and activate on a new machine with no probs.

that would make sense for my habits over the last 2 years.
