    Folks,
My new D70s arrived there today. As I was aiming at a Canon originally, I didn't really get a good reading of the D70 users here.

Do the D70 users here have any "tips" for the camera, what lens etc?

    Cheers,
    Steve.

"what lens" is a pointless question

what is your budget, what do you shoot, what size do you print, how picky are you about things like corner softness, AF speed, etc etc etc etc......

Do you mind me asking where you got it and how much you paid?

    Hi steve

if your new to SLR/DSLR, the best tip I can give would be to buy one of these -

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1861083343/qid%3D1137668695/026-9589393-8902818

I've had mine for over 1.5 years and still check it from time to time.

did you get the kit 18-70 lens? If so that will serve you well until you get to know the camera and get a better idea of what lenses your interested in.

DotOrg: I was looking for people to say "I bought this one, it's ok, definately worth money." or "This macro lens is crap, I spent £200 on it, and it's not worth the money".
I know the "it's up to your needs about the lens", but I'm looking for some pointers to used and proved decent lenses.
I'm looking to start up a large range of lenses so I'm looking at budget first to get up and running then more pricey as I get more into it. But I do understand where you're coming from. I guess I thought people here had seen my photos and kinda knew what I was into.

eas: The two main things I don't like about the 350D is the size of the viewfinder and the size of the camera in general. The two cameras are so well matched to each other area. It does feel better to hold - hearier and more sturdy and the build quality is certainly better.
The viewfinder is something that I'm going to have to use every time I use the camera, so I want to be as comfortable with it. Every review I read about the 350D has complained about the this.
The main concern I had about moving away from the 350D was the move from 8mp to 6mp, but I realise that this isn't going to make much of a difference for the type of photography I am into. The Nikon is a bigger camera, and fits better in the hand, which again, is something that I would pay close attention to and it's something which is a factor every time you lift the camera.
Due to money, I got the camera lens-free, I know somebody who is going to kindly lend me a 28-100 lens until I get my first one, which will probably be a prime lens.
I got it from a shop in England for £629. It's little more that the cheapest in other places, but I got a 512 card in the deal too. And delivery only took 12 hours :-)

eas, yeah I think I'm going to get a prime lens first, as I'm mainly looking to get into concert photography. I'm not sure which focal length to get though. Haven't decided whether ot get the 1.4 or 1.8 though. Again, I'm guessing my wallet will decide...

if you think you'll need the 1.4 i'd go for it,

I'm sure DotOrg will tell you that that little bit of speed is well worth it. Could be the difference between getting a great shot or a binner.

I'd also consider a longer lens if your doing concert stuff - like then 85 or 105 1.8 - ideally I guess you'd have all these baes covered.

you may also consider something like the 70-200 2.8 VR -

Have a look at the new 18-200VR. This might be a good all-around lens, a little bit of each but master of none.
