Aldi have a few items for sale today which might be of interest to a few classic owners. They include an impact wrench for 20 quid, runs off the battery, sliding trolley, also 20, trolley jack for 17 and a few other things. Now I know these items probably won't be up to the quality that a pro mechanic uses but you can't go wrong for the money. I'm told they have a generally no quibble money back or exchange, so the risk is minimul.

I forget to mention the power booster at 40 quid, I got one last year, best money I ever spent.

    Nice one Dubtom.

There's several things there I could use. Methinks one of those car seat covers will cover the tears in my drivers seat until I can afford full covers.

Would anyone else be nervous about climbing under a car held up by Aldi axle stands? :D

I would go so far as to say that being a German company Aldi's axles stands are probably certified by TUV which is a reputable certification.
I am open to correction but I think that TUV certification is a must for that kind of thing in Germany.

In terms of safety, their stuff is probably good (TUV and all that).

But as for their tools... I bought a screwdriver/socket set and it might as well have been made of chocolate. I think I broke a couple of the sockets within short order.

And they (or was it Lidl) were selling boxes of hose-clamps recently. They are *crap*. Very thin metal.

A mate bought a table-saw type thing from them a while ago, he says it's great.

Just got back from my shopping trip to aldi, got the impact wrench and tried it on my camri, opened the wheel nut no problem. I had kinda expected it to be a drill driver sort of thing but it uses a kinda jerking motion to open the nut, hence the name, impact. I'm impressed. Bought the screwdriver set and the rolly thing also. You can never have enough screw drivers.

I bought the Lidi axel stands a while ago, TUV cert., found them to be pretty good. I also bought a torque wrench and found it to be a bit loose, but for my needs it was perfect.

Impact wrench with chrome sockets is a big no-no!! You need hardened impact sockets which won't shatter

For 20 quid and possible use them once or twice a year, a big yes yes I think.

Got my seat covers. Mused over the screwdriver set but am glad I didn't seeing as they're apparantly made of chocolate!

Looks like happy shopping all round.

Oy ! "in my experience" anyways  - a hard, brittle chocolate. Let's see what Dubtom makes of them.

BTW Aldi's version of Liquorice Allsorts. They're so good, they're addictive.

My Mechanic has a set of the Aldi's, I Haven't tried them yet, but they can't be any worse than the sets that B+Q etc sell for twice the price. They have a handy little rubber extension thingy aswell, that alone, although it will probably never be used, is excuse enough for me:D
