So with the exams in full swing I though it would help my mood if I though about what I'm going to be doing to celebrate them being over. As I mentioned us CA3s ain't finished till Friday week but me thinks I'll be heading out Monday and Tuesday night since we have a gap from Mon-Fri...

Where is the question though...what stuck me this year is that usually theres a poster with the list of places where people go for the nights out up all over DCU and I havn't seen it yet. Anyone have any ideas?

    Aw! :o

Well me thinks I'll be hitting the town anyway, just depends on where the rest of the lads want to go. Can't really remember the last time I was OUT out on a Monday...

    Neither can I ...

I think the last time I was out properly was during the summer.

    Seriously? Geez...

Well we "discovered" The Pod this year so that was our main hangout on Thursdays...then again we havnt been to Barcode at all this Semester which is strange considering we practially lived there last year. Both of them will probably be worth a visit, same goes for the 'ol Big Tree I guess! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

I've never been to Barcode, or the Pod, not really my thing. Most of my mates don't really venture too far from the popular spots like Q-Bar (Been there far too many times for my liking) So when they go out I usually try to find an excuse not to go.

Don't get me wrong, I've been to the pub, but not on a major session, or anything. I'll try and make up for it this semester though.

Aye Barcode can be hit or miss with some people. The queues can be ridiculous sometimes and they have a habit of letting to many people in but apart from that its alrite. Music is fairly brutal in comparison to my likings but I've heard alot worse in places. Then again drinks are nicely priced before 12 so we just have some craic before then and by around 12 we either have enough drink on us or we have a nice supply on our table to keep us going! :D

The POD is pretty cool, its got 3 rooms, one with the dancefloor and bar and it has the usual nightclub music, the middle room also has a bar but plays more relaxed music and then theres a small venue with a bar in the third room. Theres basically a little for everyone and in the entire semester I was only there one night where it was too packed. The only downside is that its like €7 or €8 in whereas most places are free before 11:30...ah well!

Well if you move in with Jes this year I'm sure she'll be dragging you out...that I can nearly guarentee! :D

We (CA2) are heading out to Doyles on the Thursday or Friday of next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

You guys go out as a class? Lucky ye! I think our class tried that in first year but feck all turned up and that was the last we heard of it...

Wonder would an 'ol class email get an interest...hrm...

I probably wont go out with my year as they like **** places like Qbar and Barcode.

I'll probably just go out with some mates and have the usual good time full of randomness.

Considering partyness, as new house mates havent moved in til the end of the month... so big empty [ish] house. Only considering though... Dunno!

    Like I said, homo-erratic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Ah now Jes your slightly biased about Barcode now arent ya! :D

I've only been to Q-Bar twice and tbh I wouldnt fancy staying the night there. It seemed like a nice spot for a midweek drink after the cinema or something...

ODFM, you find the places I listed homo-erratice? Care to tell us what you'll be doing or where you'll be going?

Strangely the Pod seems to be free in after 11.30. Great place though.

Aye, me likes the Pod, and have never paid in...

so where can I go on Monday. Someone mentioned Coppers but, eh, nah.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Heh never been to Coppers but I've heard the stories...:D

D2 is also a nice spot and although I was never a fan of Coyote, 21 seems pretty popular these days aswell...

Sorry to hear about your friend,

'Tis weird, maybe i just looked very dodgy myself, but Amsterdam seemed SO much safer than Dublin!

Have fun steveland?, it's a wonderful playground :D

Yeah, don't walk around alone at night time. I was there for a night and remember watching a few scumbags trying to pickpocket a drunk guy. Not plesant.

I got robbed at gun point in work a few weeks ago (it's happened twice so far :v:)

I'd imagine I'm as likely to get robbed at gun point here as I am in Amsterdam

Well we were staying the red light district which on retrospect wasn't the safest...but it was the cheapest!!

If you go to the red light district whatever you do don't walk around alone and just ignore all the coke dealers (unless you're interested  ) they just follow you if you say no.

There's no scumbags around or drunks so the rest of the city is way safer.

Ah Amsterdam is fun. Just use your head and you'll be grand.

Steve, I hope they pay you extra when you get robbed... like a bonus for surviving or something...

    Barcode is shít.

Heh, our "hotel" is right slap bang in the centre of the Red Light District... according to reviews on the internet there's no doors on the bathroom in the room, just a shower curtain (if it's see through it's gonna make the few days a whole lot more interesting)

I didn't book it unfortunately so I had no say in where we're staying :)

Jess: Yeh the boss handed me 50 quid and gave me a lift to the pub... ended up very, very plastered that night :v:

i thought CA4 were finishing today, after their nightmare of 5 projects and 5 finals in 6 days...

well (nearly) all of 2nd year science are heading to twenty one on monday night. €3 drinks - can't go wrong!

Tenner in and crap music... I think you can... Also anywhere that has a feckin' shrine to Ross O'Carroll Kelly is just pure evil in my mind...

It's three euro drinks in Barcode aswell and the only entry fee is the €2 they make you pay to forceably put your coat in...

Not that I'm condoning Barcode... just saying it's the lesser of two evils...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

barcode isn't open on monday, and its been organised for 5 euro in if ya have a flyer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

doesn't make it any less of a kip tho!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

Aye, it was the low ceiling on the dancefloor that turned me off the place intially but then there was the fact that we had to queue for 40mins to get in, pay €8 and found the place jammers....:D

Oh dear jesus, the last thing you want on a night out are mirrors ... Particularly in it's closing stages.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

apparantly the €2 drinks is starting tomorrow night in redz... with €8 in... would make the mirrors even more worse, if thats possible!

but €2 is a bit of a bargain. doesn't beat the €1 in spain though :D
