My father has a 1.9 diesel Clio and the power steering has recently stopped working.
Anyone know if they are belt driven, electric pump etc?
Fluid level is fine, so I don't suspect a leak.

    Thanks for any advice.

I dunno..... but the easy to find out is open the hood and look for a PS pump driven off the pully belts. Electric are not electro-hydraulic, makes no sense. And have a look at the rack, if it had pipes, it's hydraulic, follow the pipes to their source.

Assuming it is hydraulic, it could have stuck valves in the valve body, and.or check the pully is not simply turning on the shaft, ie a siezed pump.

If electric, check for a blown fuse.

just realized you stated the "fluid level is fine". Well dammit is you know where the fluid reservoir is, you should have no problem determining the rest.

ust look for the belt or the pully and a missing (ie broken and lost) belt.

Some clio`s and kangoo`s have an electric hydraulic steering unit, that has a continually running motor, bolted to a pump. Problem is the plastic coupling that connects the motor and pump, wears out. and the hydraulic system fails, although the motor and pump still work perfectly. What is annoying is that Renault have never supplied these couplings as a spare part. They prefer that you spend hundreds of euro`s on a complete new unit.
