Deadly. Has anyone heard of the Ireland & Dublin groups? Great place to submit your homegrown photos.

Same as. Makes much more sense and looks alot more professional.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

whatever about looking professional but making much more sense? Not so financially speaking anyway; getting unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space for around $50 per year makes alot more sense than getting a couple of hundred megs of space and a few gigs of bandwidth for over a hundred euros per year...

Even if you do have your own virtual server out there somewhere, flickr is invaluable for image storage. I host my own blog & several photo related websites but wouldn't bother hosting all the images on them on my primary webspace.

I'd eventually like my own webpage when I get a bit better but I think I'd still use Flickr as there is a great community there always willing to help with advice etc.

I like Flickr for the features, community and ease of use. It's great value too IMHO.

If I was a pro looking to sell photos I'd definetely do up my own website with a proper shopping cart etc.

My flickr account hosts the photos I use on my blog.. best of both worlds and I get a number of hits every day from Flickr to my blog!

    From Flickr Help:

    Q. All my friends have 'friendly' Flickr URLs while all I have is a string of numbers. How do I get a friendly URL?

A: You can make your own Flickr alias. BUT!
You only get ONE SHOT at it, so choose carefully!

Hope that works for yeah. best to just pick your Flickr username

Sorry, thats kinda what i was getting @, I do have a flickr account and when I run out of space on my webspace (800mbs) Ill use it to host the files, but untill then (Im @ about 120mb used) Ill being using my own site, I think flickr is a good idea, but Its kinda like myspace.com, more of a community than anything else.

grand so.. I won't skin you and eat your flesh just yet :D

Speaking of skin, the one thing that would complete flickr now is a skinnable frontend. It would detract from the same ol 'cookie cutter' look on everyones photo pages anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭rabbitinlights

Id say skins are on the way, As long as there are a good few formats and they can be changed by the user, it will be great. (but still not as good as a full site!!!)

Try eSnips, it's not just for photos and the community is much more interesting. They give you 1GB free, no limits on monthly uploads, and you can upload any type of file you want. If you're interested in sharing more than photos, it's the place to go.

I usen't to flickr, but I do now thanks to some mates who put me under pressure ! I've since realised the social networking side of it is great fun, nevermind the easy uploading, tagging and moo cards. Oh, and did I mention my precious moo cards ? ;)

I haven't gone pro yet as I'm still testing it out, but I reckon it's only a matter of time.
