Major Hard Drive Problem

Right, was transporting my external hard drive, and when I turned it on, I got an error 10 (This device cannot start). Thinking this was a problem with the power supply of the enclosure, I bought a new one, and placed the drive in there. Again I got the error 10. The hard drive was recognised, but wasnt showing up in my computer (I'm running xp sp2, had no problems untill this happened). When i plugged the drive into other laptops, the same error occured on those computers. So thinking the drive itself was at fault, I just bought a new hard drive, a 200gb western digital. And the same problem occurred!! This device cannont start (code 10), isnt showing up in computer management, so I cant format it. I've clicked update drivers, but xp tells me there are no updates for this device. Again, tried it on another laptop, and same problem there. I'm confused! anyone have any ideas?

You tried throwing it into the puter? Running off an IDA/SATA lead from the inside?

Boot to DOS and try to read stuff from it.

If you can, it may be a faulty USB lead ;)

I dont have access to a desktop computer to place the drive in. I've tried the 2 different combinations in a couple of laptops but the same error keeps coming up

Try locate a replacement lead and give it a try. Failing that it would be ideal to throw it into a desktop pc ;)
