LanParty USB Prob

    Hiya folks,

I got a 2gb Disgo USB Pen drive and when I plug it into any of my USB ports Windows gives me a message telling me the device could run faster in a hi-speed USB port.

My mobo is a faily new LanParty (see sig) and the manual assures me they are USB 2.0 ports, My BIOS has been set to accept 1.1 and 2.0 connections and I double check that the pen drive has a USB 2.0 interface.

I reformatted yesterdy and so have downloaded all the latest drivers from everywhere for my system direct from nVidia.

    I'm stumped - any ideas?

Yes. Common problem with those boards. Answer was posted on www.dfi-street.com way back last Spring. Let me see if I can find it for you.

DO NOT under any circumstances install windows USB 2.0 drivers from the driver disk. They're for Win 98 only.

I think it's something to do with wrong drivers being picked up by windows

    <edit>Here it is.
    More info here and here

That would be the problem then.
I installed the USB drivers off the cd - but did wonder at the time why they weren't viewable in the GUI of the CD.

I'll remove them and let windows pick up the usb ports and see if that helps.

Thanks WizZard - even though your partially to blame for tempting me into buying your raptor thus forcing a reinstall. :D

If you're running Windows XP, have you got at least service pack 1 installed? USB 2.0 wasn't supported before Sp1.

I slipstreamed SP2 into my XP Pro install.

I removed everything (was funny when I remembered I use a USB mouse ) and then rebooted and windows picked it all up.

    Problem Solved. Thanks guys.

Glad you got it sorted. BTW, how's the Raptor going?

In device manager scroll down to usb controlers and uninstall the USB root hub, restart windows and it will prompt you a new device was found, let windows atomatically install drivers and that should work fine.
It did for me at least (same mobo)

    Jozi

EDIT: I should read all post in furure

Your advice is still appreciated jozi. I did what you advised to the letter and it worked.

The raptor is going quite well. Boot speed has increased significantly and I did notice the difference when I was formatting and installing windows. I haven't had a chance to install any games yet or 3DMark05 or anything - had awful trouble finding a XP Pro cd that worked - had to install 2000, slipstream the XP Pro cd with the SP2 cd, make the cd then start over.

But I'm chuffed now - PC feels all new again.
