So the hald time scores in tonights games are:

    Birmingham 0-0 Torquay
    Chester 0-0 Cheltenham
    Leeds 1-1 Wigan
    Middlesborough 0-0 Nuneaton
    Reading 0-1 west Brom
    Tamworth 1-0 Stoke
    Walsall 0-0 Barnsley

Leeds V Wigan is live on Sky Sports. Leeds were absolutely awful for the first half an hour. Midfield was non-existant and the team just sat back and allowed Wigan to push forward. Wigan hit the bar through Gary Teale who has been running rings around Crainey all night and then Johansson scored after hitting the post but getting to the rebound first. I think the goal woke Leeds up because the last ten or fifteen minutes in the half we started playing much better and got an equaliser from a corner. Rob Hulse won the header but it was blocked on the line, only for Healy to poke the ball in. from then Leeds have been on top and the crowd have gotten into. Its all set up for a good second half. Liam Miller is having a decent game in the centre and is pushing more and more forward. kilgallan is great at the back and just continues to get better and better.

As for the other scores, fairplay to non-league Tamworth who lead at the break and nuneaton are still holding Middlesborough at the Riberside. fantastic result if they can keep that going!

Leeds and Wigan 2-2 after 90mins so extra time to be played now.

    Birmingham 2-0 Torquay
    Chester 0-1 Cheltenham
    Leeds 2-2 Wigan
    Middlesborough 5-1 Nuneaton
    Reading 2-2 west Brom
    Tamworth 1-1 Stoke
    Walsall 2-0 Barnsley

Good match Leeds v Wigan, could go either way. Liam Miller nearly scored a cracker from outside the box on the half volley but came off the underside of the bar

Final score Leeds 3-3 Wigan and Wigan win 4-2 on penalties.

Im so disappointed right now. What a goal by Gary Kelly to make it 3-3. Thats only his 5th ever goal in almost 500 matches for Leeds. But two shocking penalties by Healy and Hulse who were both terrific in the match. Kilgallon was brilliant and my man of the match. He is getting better and better and even Chris Kamara said it. Top player he is. Good performance by Leeds and we showed we can match good Premiership opposition both home and away. Gutted we lost bt cant fault the players in the end.

Reading came from 2-0 down at half-time against West Brom to win 3-2 through Leroy Lita.

Leed vs Wigan was a great game, in games like that you don't really want to see a loser (well, us neutrals anyway!) and I felt sorry for David Healy to have played a good game, score twice and miss the first penalty of the shoot-out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Yeah I felt sorry for Healy. It was an awful penalty though.

Yeah it really was, and he is usually the lad you would want to take a penalty because he rarely misses. Couldnt have been worse timing!!

I think that his penalty in the second half influenced how he hit the one in the shootout. He was very lucky with the one in the second half so he tried to blast it in the shootout and ended up paying the price for it.

Great goal by Gary Kelly though. I don't think you could possibly hit a volley any sweeter. Liam Miller was unlucky with his volley that came off the underside of the bar too. Roberts is a quality striker, always causing Leeds problems. He deserved his Man of the Match. Great game to watch.

Who got MoM?watched till extra time and seen Wigan score. Thought it was all over so flicked stations and missed leeds goal and penos. MoM should have been Miller. Had a great game and looked for the first 30 mins that him and Killgannon where the only people showing up for Leeds.

Read the post above yours. ;)

Graham Kavangh's reaction after he scored the winning penalty was class.
    "That's what it's about, that's what it's F*&king about!!"

I didn't see the match but it looked like a cracker.

Thats what i was thinking. I think he'd have scored had he not taken the peno earlier. i can imagine him second guessing where he thought the keeper would dive to this time.

Twas a great of a game but i'm still disappointed. Then again it was a cracker of a goal by gary kelly.

Just looked at the table and we're 12 points of shef utd with a game in hand. Second is still possible (crosses fingers)

Won't pick the bones out of tonight, never any trouble, all I'll say is that it was great to see Solskjaer starting, and unreal performance from Rossi, 2 assists and 2 goals.

no luck for the non leaguers this week, tamworth came very close, losing 5-4 on penos was very hard luck for them :)

Rossi was unreal, fabulous display of link up play and scoring for a young lad, has to given is PL chance.

Fair play to Burton, would love to have seen them score, fair play to their fans

Rossi finished well in fairness to him, you have to remember though they are a bunch of plumbers who your average EL side should beat fairly well.

Rossi should be made 3rd striker ahead of Saha. IMO Saha has no future with Utd. He will leave in the summer for about half his price Utd bought him at.

Yeah I was about to say that myself. I couldn't believe how much Hansen et al were going on about him (not because of Rossi himself) but because of the opposition that had to be taken into consideration on the night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

It was a good win by Utd. but it was to be expected. I was impressed with the Irish lad Gilroy, he's definitely good enough to be playing at a higher level.

Rossi was great on the night but as has been said already, you have to take the opposition into consideration, but still a good performance nonetheless. I was also quite impressed by Pique. Saha was muck. And Fletcher? WTF? He was his usual below par self, gave the ball away on about 5 or 6 occasions which is not good enough against opposition like Burton Albion.

But all in all a good night from Utd., job done, roll on Wolves.

rossi made himself look very good against very poor opposition. it was this that saha failed to do. i mentioned this last week, how i had always wanted to see more of saha and this season we are seeing more of him and my valuation of him is decreasing with every game. he is scoring goals but he is not a natural finisher, doesnt have close control of the ball and seems to be a very poor passer.

however he is very good at getting onto balls over the top which is something united dont seem to do anymore. over the top is the only system that saha will survive in at united. imo i think he will be sold in the summer. did anyone see fergies reaction to one of his poor finishes last night? he was one on one with the keeper and blew it, fergie reacted very angrily for a manager that was 4-0 up.

hats of to PHB, he has been praising rossi and pique on here for sometime. despite been against poor opposition the both look like they have the potential to become great players for united.

also did anyone else see kieran richardsons back heel over the line in the first half?! taxi for richardson....

Rossi was playing against poor opposition, but it wasn't like he was capitalsing on mistakes or anything.
He can do that against higher levels and has been doing it for about 2 years now, it's great :)

I thought Pique was actually quite poor? Had some good defeensive moments, but on the ball was very weak, except that great pass to Richardson for the first goal. I expect more from him, and he'll show it soon ehough I'm sure.
Once David Jones comes back, and McShane and Specotr come back, you'll see why the youth team managers and talking about the best crop since the golden generation.

Spector, Pique, Bardesly, McShane, David Jones, Rossi, Blakes.
All of these guys have a chance to make it at the top level, so I'm very excited.
Add that to Ronaldo, Fletcher(who was ****e last night) and of course Rooney and I'm quite happy.
Chelsea can buy everyone, but they can't compete with United/Arsenal/Liverpool at youth team levels, and thats where we gotta win.

    ---
    p.s.
Saha was ****e last night. Like what the ****, how didn't he score a hatrick, seriously?! I still expect him to stick around, and it appears to me like he is seriously lacking in confidence. He however was fantastic for Fulham and when we first signed him I was seriously pleased, so lets hope he can pay off the money he cost us at least. I'm hoping he can at least get back into the french squad, have a decent world cup, and at least make us our money back.

Saha woulnt even get into the French B team...never mind the first team.

Id like to see Rossi more to make a judge on him.

Him and Lupoli are banging them in for there respective reserve sides however rossi seems to have more games under him in the 1 st team all be it in cup competitions.

If he scores 2 goals against the pool id be impressed....

Yep, but he has been fairly good for United two when he gets a run going. When he first arrived, he was fantastic, but then injuries came. Give him time.
There is no way we could justify selling him, as he might come back to his old, one season albeit, self.

Rossi won't even be on the bench against Liverpool probably unfortunately, however i'm very very hopeful he'll get to play against Blackburn in the league cup.

To be honest PHB, Im hoping Rossi's not on the bench against Pool! He looks like a guy who could turn a game on its head and is hungry for opportunities. Would much prefer to see Saha coming off the bench then him. Just like, at the moment, i'd prefer to see Pongolle come off the bench instead of cisse, for the same reasons. (though i would actually like to see cisse start)
