  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭sparkulicous

i'm goin monday. look's like the afternoons the time to head in.

The ambassador's easy to find. it's just at the end of oconnell street. not the o connell bridge side. can't miss it.

Alas, i didn't get any tickets but i would've loved to have seen either of the bands playin. I'm not bitter though, i hope there will be a good show put on.

    Neither, We Are Scientists:)
I don't really know the other bands...

Would definitely go for We Are Scientists first and foremast.. although Maximo Park are excellent. Not really pushed on the Arctic Monkeys to be honest.. hopefully they will prove themselves... have tix for the monday show, although don't know if I'm going just yet... is there any other support apart from those 3?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

I'm kicking myself for not buying a ticket!!!

It's gonna be a fantastic show anyway. Arctic Monkeys really should be headlining it instead of Maximo Park. I would have mostly gone to the show for Arctic Monkeys but I've seen them once before and i'm sure they'll be back in Ireland before the year is out (prob Oxegen or their own headline gig). I love We Are Scientist too. I expect them to be great live. I'm not too keen on Mystery Jets.

Monkeys headlining over Maximo Park?!! Are you mad?!

Seriously though, love them both, but definitely prefer MP. Not too pushed on the We Are Scientists album, think it might have been hyped up too much.

Overall, great price for a great lineup.

Nope, theres no pit, but people just get to the front and stay there (if you're into that)

mmm, not sure what i'll do so, not going til Tuesday so i'll wait for some reports back from Monday night first to see if I'll queue.

Picked up Maximo Park's album last week and it's starting to grow on me after a couple of spins. Haven't managed to get my hands on any We Are Scientists stuff so I'll be wading into that one blind. I haven't seen Arctic Monkeys live before but I've got a feeling they'll rock something fierce. I certainly hope so anyway. Roll on Tuesday.

i got my tickets off ebay for £26. and thats for two tickets so im well happy and theyre not fake!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,088 ✭✭✭Ruskie4Rent

I've seen the arctic monkeys play on mtv2 a while ago and let me say those with tickets are goin to a hell of a show. I'm not sure how long each band plays for tbh.

I'm looking forward to all except Mystery Jets. Haven't heard much stuff from them. Apparently the drummer is the lead singer's dad. He had to get used to not calling him dad. Very rock and roll.

Well I wasnt saying EVERY auction on ebay is an attempt to rip people off.. just the majority. :-)

Theres a place for selling tickets at face value its the fs tickets section of boards.ie and there's places to sell tickets for profit and they're ebay and buy and sell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭blocparty

well i got my tickets for under the face value so im very happy! i think im the same as everyone else realy. have the arctic monkeys album maximo parks and we are scientists but havent heard anything from the mystery jets! guessing theyll have some quality bout them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭antifyre

Got MP and AM's albums late, so was delighted to find the tickets on ebay.....

Scientists are a bit blown up, but should be a good nights fun anyway.....

Who went last night, good night?
What time did doors open, were there a lot queuing? Was there definitely no pit?

No pit. But the venue wasn't packed so you could make it towards the front pretty easily. Quality gig. Loved we are scientists. Arctic Monkeys were great also. The lead singer has to be one of the cockiest lead singers I've ever seen but they were good. Maximo park were completely different with one of the most friendly and talkative lead singers. Great great gig. Would go tonight again if i could.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

    thanks!

Oh yeah and watch out for the keyboard player for Maximo Park. Weirdo. Not sure where he leared his dance moves. Possibly a butchers.

Can't believe a quarter of the crowd pissed off home after arctic monkeys.. still it culled the kids... might have been bedtime or something.

Maximo Park were amazing.. WAS were pretty decent though didn't catch too much, wasn't impressed at all by Arctic Monkeys.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 764 ✭✭✭jmc

    Think stage times are approx...

    7.20- 7.50 Mystery Jets
    8.10 - 8.40 We Are Scientists
    9.00 - 9.40 Arctic Monkeys
    10.00 - 10.50 Maximo Park

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭blocparty

ya it was a quality gig! loved we are scientists and arctic monkeys didnt like maximo park all that much but they still but on a class performance!

what was with the air chop from the guy playing the keyboard? it really pissed me off!

ive got pics of the gig but oly have a couple of good ones! ill post them here as soon as i can

ah dont be too hard on the arctic monkeys. they were good but the lead singer is very cocky but it can be overlooked. im guessing your slightly older than me so maximo park were your prefered band. what was with the air chop though?

I really liked Artic Monkeys..I was well impressed, Maximo Park were damn good too.

Arctic Monkeys were excellent. I hate this attitude of 'oh everyone thinks they're cool now so I refuse to like them.' Surely its obvious to anyone who has listened to their album or seen them live that there's something special about them. I thought they were amazing last night

We Are Scientists were very good, couldn't really get into Maximo Park, and I dont know what to make of the Mystery Jets

Absolutely! There was a real sense of occasion during their set last night that put them streets ahead of the other bands. Great songs - Fake Tales of San Francisco and Vampires were stunning, great attitude from the band and a really enthusiastic audience who were right behind them. Kept reminding me of The Smiths first gig in Dublin - the crowd expectation and sheer goodwill towards the band made for something extraordinary. Maximo Park hadn't a hope upping the ante after their set - seemed very forced and dull with none of the humour and pogo inducing charisma of The Monkeys and that keyboard player has got to go!

couldnt agree more with you on that! theres a group of people that think just because the band are a massive success that its cooler to not like them! anyone who listened to their demos is a true fan!

Putting Maximo Park on after Arctic Monkeys was certainly an odd decision....
I was well impressed with all the acts. Good energy, good vibe, good tunes, great night!

oh ya forgot to ask if the arctic monkeys had intro music while they were coming on stage last night cause they played "regulators" by warren g feat nate dogg at the monday nights gig

Yep, they did last night as well. Raising of the eyebrow ensued.

    Hey,

Have to say I'm surprised at the positive reaction the monkeys are getting. I love their music and they were very tight on the night (always a worry on the first night of a tour), but I thought the band just weren't into it. The lead singer especially seemed overwhelmed by the situation, and I thought we might have been in for a spoilt brat night when he spend the in-between bits of the first few songs conversing with his roadie with his back to the audience. He made very few comments throughout the night but his first was telling - after a particularly mad reaction (to dancefloor which they played second) he said -"so its a phenomenon now, is it?". He was cynical about the over the top buzz the kids were giving him and it seemed to just turn him off the whole thing. He recovered for the last few songs but the gig was kinda lost at that stage.

I have seen other hype bands play early in their career (scissors in village, editors in whelans, streets in ambassador(not early but first ever live gig for them)) and in all of those gigs the bands at least tried to give back as much energy as they were getting. With the monkeys, I was half expecting the lead singer and the lead guitarist (who looked pertrified throughout the whole thing) to announce that this rock and roll life wasn't really for them and they'd be more comfortable doing something else.

Maximo park were more entertaining as a stage act but the monkeys have better songs. And as if to comfirm my perverse view of the evening, I loved the hand chopping keyboardist! Couldn't take my eyes off him, he was completely mad :)

i agree with you to some extent! but i dont think they have that kind of personality like you saw with the mystery jets bass player going and sitting on the amps to the right of the stage.

the lead singer does seem a bit cocky. im guessing the reason they are so quiet is because they are concentrated on getting their music right and not making a mess of it but i can see them loosening up as the tour continues.

they arent that experienced and theres alot of pressure on them to live up to the hype!

    we are scientits were quality

We are scientist - very good. typical american band.

Exactly what i thought. Maximo Park were possibly not the right headliners. The Arctic Monkey were amazing. Having heard the reord alot prior to this I can safely say they are very good live. Singer seems like a twat and they all look 15.

Mystery Jets were very odd. I expected that though.....

'you can't fool me dennis'.. ha ha.

I think a lot of you are surprised by the quietness/cockyness of the band.

Basically they are from a pretty 'common' part of Sheffield, not saying theres owt wrong with High Green, its just a bit rough. Theyve been brought up in a rough neighbourhood, ok its not exactly Moss Side but the guys gonna ahve a bit of cockyness. I know plenty lioke him
I think this global exposure theyre suddenly getting and the fact its not actually their gig meant they just played as much as possible.

Aparently they got besieged in Dorans last night by screamin girls

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭RAUL DUKE

Exactly, seemed like they were tryin to stuff as many tunes as possible in the short amount of time..I for one wasn't goina complain about that,i thought they were f*ckin amazin..Tune of the night was......actually every tune was brilliant...
