MSN messenger

I haven't been able to log in in 3 months and its driving me crazy. Its telling me it can't connect me, possibly due to a firewall, but I don't have one, at least not that I'm aware of. The settings on my laptop were changed at college last year to connect to the college network, so it might have something to do with that, but everything else works fine including file sharing programs.

I went into network connections and there was a box to tick to have a firewall, but it was unchecked, apparently I don't have one. What could be the problem?

Have you tried something like webmessenger.msn.com? Just to see if you can connect that way?

  • Yes but my pop up blocker blocks it and I don't know how to let it come up

Go to tools > options > Connections > Advanced settings and see if it's using a proxy. If it is, get rid of it.

Then look at internet explorer. Go to tools > options > Connections And see if it's using a proxy.

if you're still in college and trying to use msn messenger it might not work because colleges block the ports programs like it would use, so thats why you might not be able to connect. they would leave other ports open, like port 80, which would be used to surf the web.

try downloading firefox and then going to http://webmessenger.msn.com . firefox gives you the option to temporarily enable popups if you need them. get it at www.getfirefox.com

1 of two things that always stops me from connecting, 90% chance these will sort it.

1 ) Follow this : Should work, alwayys does for me

    Go to Start
    Click Run
Enter the following in the box regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
    Re-Start MSN Messenger

Ff that dont work i bet this will,

Go to Start -> Run and type CMD and then hit the <enter> key.

Then at the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns and then hit enter and retry connecting with MSN Messenger. :)

    I think it'll solve it

or 2 ) Make sure the Time on your BIOS' clock is exact right time, If not or you have reset your BIOS anytime, It won't log MSN in unless the time is exactly the right time ;)
