Been playin bass a few years and am hoping to get into a band with serious ambitions. Im considering buying an ashdown abm c115-300 combo amp. Tryin to find out as much information about this as i can before buying. I've been to music maker where they cost roughly 1400euros. I was just wondering if anyone who has experience playin with this amp could give me some general feedback on it, if it is worth this price, or should i pay and extra 300euros for a c115-500, also in music maker.
    Cheers

Im looking at something similar at the moment myself. For a start, Id look here or here before you pay out for anything. I just bought a bass and saved myself €700 buying it outside Ireland. The shop in question wanted 65% more than I got if for brand new (delivered).

Saying that, I am heading into town over the next couple of weeks with cash to give the local shops a fair shot and to be honest, if they are within 10% of the online price, I'll buy it from them...I aint too hopefull though

By all accounts those who have purchased Ashdowns around here, have not been disappointed.

    Best of luck.

My Ashdown makes my balls jangle (that's good). It's been 100% reliable. I've an ABM 300 and an ABM 15" cab and I've never played a gig, and there have been many, where it couldn't hold it's own. The only thing I'd worry about in getting the combo is the weight of the bastard.

Also, do shop around, the prices here are just bloody greedy. Check www.soundslive.co.uk too, they have a few Ashdowns on sale at the moment.

    Head + Cab > Combo

Easier to get around and less likely to fault as the major components such as the transformer are located further away from al those vibrations, espeically with bass amps. Ashdown are goo for Bass amps. Consider SWR, Aguilar and Eden too though. You could buy a cab here in Ireland and get the head from germany, USA or Uk. Beware of US voltage conversion, 'tis a bit pricey. Maybe you could get an export model...hmm

    Anyway, check out : www.basscentral.com

Id say you will pay A LOT for shipping cabs or combos from US as well as import tax, & voltage issues. (basscentral.com)

Probably better to look in UK or Europe when considering BIG items.

Unless of course you are getting a fantastic deal! :D

Another thing... I'm just curious about the MAG series. They seem cheaper than the ABM series. Would like to know if there is a major difference with these in terms of sound quality etc.. Thanks

Get into musicmaker and try them beside each other and hear the difference for yourself. The EQ on the ABM is a bit more flexible and it has a tube channel too, but the MAGs have a lovely sound too.
