Just wondering what the general consensus is regarding his new Dublin branch... I personally have no problem with it but apparently some locals have been up in arms about it... Hence court case thingy...

This has probably been asked before but of course I missed it

I can't even believe in this day and age that something like this is even discussed or a big deal. It's only a bar with topless women, big deal. The locals were moaning because that's what locals do in this country. They said it would damage the community or something. You'd think they'd have more pressing issues in their lives for god's sake.

I've nothing against these clubs generally, (they can be fun at times) but theres just something about Stringfellow i dont like. he looks like a sticky old greasy pervert or something, so i imagine his clubs would be the same. I can understand people being psised off with it being in a residential area though.

Don't see a problem with it. Especially as there was a lap dancing club on the same premises not so long ago

i think its a great idea! I heard some of the dancers rake in the money - I woul ddo it but only if it wasnt topless. are girls allowed to go to his club? I took pole dancing classes a while ago and some of the girls were saying you had to ring in advance if you wanted to see real pole dancers in dublin (to see what the pro's are like at it) cos they normally wont let girls in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭blahblah06

of course girls are allowed go to it. there is male dancers in it also

you said you are looking for classes to start yeah? I got an email off polestars last week that they will be taking boookings for beginners and taster classes happening in march and april so maybe give them a ring
theres no intermediate scheduled yet which is a pity im dying to do that one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭blahblah06

im sure its a completly different athmosphere for the girls. i dont mean to be rude or anythin bu lads will be looking at you pervy. I know a few girls that have done it for half a night then left. theres lots of money involved if you do go topless and are a good dancer and oh the other thing..

Wasn't it closed down due to illegal immigrants working there? Or selling 'sevices' that they shouldn't. I know one or two of the clubs were closed down because of these reasons

How would one go about getting a job being a barman there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

If any of you have ever managed to get into stringfellows in london then you would know its not some dodgey grease-barn like some of the clubs in dublin. The residents of the flats just off parnell street were the ones complaining, not about the club but the possibility of having perverts roaming a residential area....... i mean theres a lap dancing club not 500 meteres away (several actually)

Shooters was closed down for a few reasons, one of which was to do with someone running off with money, i never really enquired much about it and i havent spoken to the friend associated with the place in a few years.

A dublin hooters = yes please. cant wait till i go to america again and get me some decent buffalo wings.

I think as part of its licence it is 21. Was reported in the paper at the time as that

I don't have a problem with lap dancing clubs but I don't think the likes of Peter Stringfellow should be making money from it. In the 70s alot of co-ops were set up in London where only women were involved in the business as they were the ones bringing the punters in. They all had back up from the police and were fairly nice places to work. But then pimps like him came along and took them over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

so if a woman is the manager of a place its fine, but if a man is the manager of a place hes a pimp?

    cop on.

Admittidly stringfellow is a bit of a player but hes in it for the money like anyone else and i seriously doubt he has much to do with the day to day of any of his clubs other than being a faceman.

I know 2 girls who have worked in stringfellows in london, and they had nothing but good words to say about it unlike some of the other dives that are available there and here.

He said in the papers last week that thats exactly what he's doing. He's lending his name to another company who own the license and run the place. I guess it's a franchise of sorts.

Ha that's the funniest I ever heard,

    What are you saying exactly;

That you think waitressing is a great idea

    or

That it would be a great idea to do it wearing a top, while all the othersare topless?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

found something humerous in eircoms news portal
The North Inner City Residents Group said they did not want the club in an area which had a girl's secondary school, a toy shop, a cinema and corporation flats for young children.

i didnt know the council gave flats to young children :)

If the woman owns the business and is making money of these girls then she is a pimp. But if all the girls get an equal share in the business's profits then it wouldn't matter what sex the owner/manager was. I have heard that Stringfellow's girls get paid quite well but its a vert strict place to work.

no if the girls where getting a equal amount from the profits they would be share holders , if they get paid a rate from the work they do , they are employee's.

I've got no problems with it. The place should be well "Policed" by the bouncers , and it should be ran very well ( if it is anything like the origninal).

Better to have something out in the open and we all know where it is, than to have little back alley Smelly places where dodgey stuff goes on imo.

Does that mean that my boss is a pimp? I'm a computer programmer and he's the boss. I get a salary and he takes the lion's share of the profits. Does that make him my pimp? Hmmm, better notify the printers next time we get our business cards done.

Bosses pay their staff a set wage and what happens to the rest of the money is up to the boss/board/etc. It's called business. Just because it's a lapdancing club, doesn't mean that the bosses are pimps because they don't give all the profits to the dancers. Plus the girls aren't shagging the customers for money (supposedly).

Regarding earlier posts about topless dancers, I think it's actually the full monty isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Some are topless, some aren't, some are the full-monty.

    And its not lap-dancing - its table-dancing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Megatron

    Dancing Tables ..

Wow now that is something i'd pay to see  :p

According to one female journalist, its very tame in comparison to other lap dacing clubs in Dublin. They're strict on the door, so you can't get in if u have alot of drink on you so when u can go inside its not as sleazy as some places where the men are off their faces groping all the girls.

Its 20 quid for a dance. And id imagine the price of drink would be steep enough.
