    hi all,

just wondering if its possible to apply some simple copy protection to a data cd-r? I realise most people with a brain could probably bypass anything but it might keep joe blogs with adaptec from mass copying:D the cd would have some informational products in the form of pdf files.

also is there anything available for dvd video on a dvd-r?

    thanks in advance.

    cheers,
    jack

    you can password PDF files.

you could assume anyone who uses the CD will have internet access so the install routine would mean they need to send you an email / visit a web site to register.

protection on PDF files is useless. wouldn't advise using it if its at all important to keep it protected.

I'd suggest password protecting the PDF too, and prevent it from being printable. Even though there are many tools out there to bypass the simple pdf encryption, many ordinary users wouldn't be aware of them.

If someone really wants to copy it though, they will. Think of how much money and time was invested in CSS encryption by movie companies only to have it broken by a 14 year old.
