Album of the week suggestions

Please post your suggestions for album of the week here. I'm going to make an archive thread with a list of past albums of the week so check there before posting a suggestion to avoid unnecessary repetition.

Try not to suggest a load of really obscure things, it's not much fun if only two people are interested in a thread.

The current album of the week will be stickied but there will be links to each of the old ones in the archive thread.

    Let the suggestions begin!

    Amen to that brother.

Or anything that's not by this week's pretentious australian/canadian/icelandic miserabilist drivel-mongers or american Talking Heads tribute band of choice. Thank You

Try not to pick obscure things? Well if you consider My Bloody Valentine not to be obscure, then anything I suggest should also fit withing that bracket.

Neil Young - On The Beach
At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command
    AC/DC - Back In Black
    Ryan Adams - Gold
    Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel

there's a few to get you started.

I'd like to second/third/fourth Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary

    I'd also like to nominate;

    AFX - Hangable Auto Bulb

Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die

    A couple of side points
Should the albums be only in the vague confinds of "Alt/Indie"
Should we limit nominations to recent albums?
Limit the number of votes per person per week?

    AFX - Hangable Auto Bulb

That's kinda cheating seeing as it's just two hard to find 12"s cobbled together on one CD.

    What about

    I Care Because You Do
    or
Polygon Window - Surfing On Sine Waves [my favourite RDJ record]

Alt/Indie is such a vague term that anything that you can fit under it is fair game.
Should we limit nominations to recent albums?
No, a mix old and new was the whole point of the threads. I'd like to see a classic one week and a new release the next.
Limit the number of votes per person per week?
    Nah, just keep them coming!

Billy Corgan - The Future Embrace (did anybody like it?)

    Smashing Pumpkins - Machina

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

    Something by Tool? NIN?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

Agree with those Ilac, especially Hail to the Thief. NIN would be interesting, their latest fare "With Teeth" is good.

I suppose nominally you're trying to tread the line between what a fair few people might have heard, and trying to suggest some listening to open people up?

The Open - The Silent Hours. It's an absolute cracker from beginning to end.

Gold - Ryan Adams. As above!

The Strokes - Is This it

    Gomez - Abandoned Shopping

    Doves - The last Broadcast
