    Hi

I am looking to book a weekend break in Budapest in late March. Can anyone give me any feedback on what it is like as a destination. More specifically; if anyone has any knowledge of St. Margaret's Island to share, I would be most grateful.

I spent a weekend there last January. It was cold and snowing but fantastic. Never went to the island itself. We did do the bus tour all around both Buda and Pest but there is no traffic allowed on the island so we never got there.

It really is a lovely city, although you can deffo see it's communist past. A lot of incredible buildings intertwined with some run down kips (the old, we'll build them but not maintain them attitude). Very reasonable place in regard food drink etc. Would recommend a long weekend there. Just watch out for certain types of clubs tapping* you up.

(* not letting you leave them until you have paid a very hefty bill which you didn't run up)

i was there for a few days before christmas.

    cool enough place.

castle hill is pretty good. there are some nice buildings to see there and it provides a good view over the city.

there a loads of hot baths in the city. i went to in a park which was an open air one. can't remember its name, but it was good ****

I'm living in Budapest at the moment.
Margaret Island is lovely during the summer.
During the winter it's pretty dead.
The thermal baths are nice. There are apparantly some on the island,
but we usually head up to the largest ones at Szenchinyi (2nd last stop on yellow metro)
As Judean mentioned beware of the strip joints.
Many of them are run by mafia and charge a hefty bill.
There's some class bars in Budapest that you won't find in any guide.
You could even easily walk past em without realising.
Statue Park is outta town is a waste of a day.

Like the rest I was there for a long weekend last year. Fantastic place. Nearly any of the buildings in the city would be land mark quality if they were in Ireland. Visit the Thermal spa's you could spend a day there easily. There is the indoor market which has some nice things. We had one great night out but one night we went to a club and it was a bit of a shock. Real techno with nearly all the guys buffed up wearing tight t-shirts just posing around. Not our scene.
Food is great over there. Ask for local dishes you won't be disapointed. Drink is cheap. There national drink is Unicum. The most discusting drink imaginable. Its worth a sip just as proof to yourself. We were 3 guys and found it safe and used all forms of there excellent public transport. I'd be a bit wearier of girls in groups to be honest but taxi's are very regular and cheap. Enjoy

Budapest rocks however found the people a little grumpy and service lacking. Other than that a truly great few days away. The island is quite and a bit dreary in winter time but the baths are nice enough.. Better baths and more old world experience to be had in the Gellert if you are into the spa/massage thing. They do a great thai massage upstairs in the Gellert for about 90 minutes which is a true treat. Other than that the city is truly fabulous, very interesting, very beautiful, good bars and nice restaurants. The building and architecture are out of this world and the shopping is great. Enjoy it..
