Anyone know what the starting chips and clock is in this tournament?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,679 ✭✭✭Daithio

The clock is 30 mins. I'd say the starting chips are between 5k and 7k. Don't know though. Every tournament I've played in the SE so far has had an excellent structure.

Yeah i went in to play a satelite too
Got nowhere myself as well, basically just a gamble fest, the 1500 starting chips didnt leave you much room to manuvoure especially if you lose your 1st few pots,
Lost my 1500 starting chips when docco raised to 400, at 50/100, another guy called, i pushed with ak, docco called and so did your man, the other guy only had 300 left and it went in on the flop,
Docco had jj and your man showed q8:eek:

Of course fish flopped 2 pair and that was that

Bit mad really, people goin all in on the blind trying to act the big man etc

I ended up chopping it with the skin head guy Rob. Heads up I had a 175k to 25k chip lead but he doubled up twice and then my head wasn't right so we did a deal, getting 4k each:D That was the toughest final table I've ever played I think, there were so many different styles of play at it, and alot of people willing to gamble. I was up and down like a yo yo until I consolidated a big chip lead 3 handed (after about 3 hours though!) which I hung on to. I probably should have played on heads up but the cards just started going against me and I got a bit panicky. Was happy just to take the 4k. It was a great game, I'll definitely go in next month.

saw you there when you arrived for registration.
i was just out of the sattelite and about to leave.
    how many got paid?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,679 ✭✭✭Daithio

9 but it was basically money back until the top 4. I'd have prefered 5 paid, I think 25% is a little too much, but it didn't really bother me as I went to the final table with alot of chips so was only thinking about the 5k really!

It was a bit weird Gholimoli. There were a fair few of the really experienced Dublin players who are tough to play against, ie Peter Heslan, Willow Connolly, Pat Vickers, Kevin Farrelly, Alan Gibbons, Dave Doyle... The list goes on, but there were also a few idiots giving their chips away too. Two lads from Waterford, Nicky and Danny, who are both very good, came up for the game too. Nicky ended up third. He was probably my toughest opponent at the final table, and eventually lost a race with 77 v my AK to go out. He lost 4 out of 4 races at the final table which was a bit harsh.

The final table was a bit odd. Myself and Peter Heslan were about joint chip leaders going in to it, and he was two to my left which I didn't really like. He's very aggressive and not at all afraid of other big stacks; he'd definitely stick it in on a bluff against me if he thought I would fold, so I was trying to avoid him. Pat Vickers, Kevin Farrelly and some young inexperienced player went out early enough short stacked, so it was myself, Chris from the Fitz, Peter Heslan, Nicky, and the guy I ended up chopping it with who was a complete gambler. The deck was hitting Chris in the face (or so she led us to believe!) and she was taking down monster pots with big all in moves. I took a big dent out of Peter with a check raise bluff on a queen high flop after he'd raised my blind for the umpteenth time, and then he dwindled down to the felt after a few mistimed bluffs. He eventually went out when the gambler called his 75 all in with a pair of deuces! Deuces stood up and it was four of us left. I was pretty relieved to see the back of Peter, he's very hard to play against.

I got a bit short myself when I re raised Nicky on the turn putting him on a flush/ straight draw which he called only to hit the straight on the river, which he showed, and I had to fold my second pair 6 kicker lol. He actually had the ace high flush draw and the open ender so it was a fair enough call on the turn. I flukily doubled up when he raised my big blind to 10k for about the 6th time in a row, Chris flat called and I moved in for 35k with K9 off. It was your typical squeeze play, I knew Nicky wouldn't call with Chris behind and had figured that Chris would have gone over the top herself if she was going to call an all in. Anyway Nicky folded and after a big dwell up Chris called with KQ!! DOH! Anyway I got lucky, filling up by the river, and Chris was gone in fourth place.

Three handed was crazy. I had a pretty big chip lead now, about 100k out of 200k in play, but the other two just kept on doubling up. It went on for about 2 hours, no joke, until Nicky raised my bb and I looked down at AK off. He was the bigger stack at this stage (I had 125k, he had 50k, and the gambler had 25k), so I reckoned I could push him off with an all in. He called with 77, declaring he was playing to win it which is fair enough, and an ace on the flop knocked him out in third. I don't know about the call really, but if he folded he'd only have 40k with blinds at 3-6k, so it's not the worst in the world. If the 77 stands up we can just elbow out the gambler and make a deal, so I can see his reasoning, but it was only a matter of time before the gambler did himself in so maybe he should have waited.

Heads up I reckoned it was mine for certain, with 175k v 25k, but after doubling him up twice I started to lose it a bit. The antes were fairly big, 4k-8k, and I decided that I'd be happy with a deal, aware that I was tilting a bit after going from such a strong position back to evens. I can't remember the last time I haven't done a deal heads up, it would have been nice to win it outright but €4k is an alright consolation:D :D .

congratulations Dave on the win, very good result.
i played it myself, and dealt to you for awhile on the 2nd last table (short staffed!)
u were v unlucky when ur trips lost to the flush draw when you had the guy to your left all in,(who by the way was a very good player too, when he showed his squeeze play bluff on u)
I played on table one myself, which was very hard, pat and kevin to my left, with jimmy won re-raising constantly to any sign of weakness to my immediate right. Really enjoyed the tournament, and hopefully in the near future could be nearer the money, but very well done to all who got there, ul willow who lost with KK to ax (i think) just as final table had been announced, to go out on the joint bubble.
v good tournie, good structure, amt of chips etc, and if they had jus paid out the top 5 prob wuda bn betr.

    In a €300 tournament?

I think he was already knocked out by then Dave, there were dealers on all the tables.

DocO, was that you who dealt the river spade to Rob? I don't think I've ever been so p1ssed off about a beat in my life! That was a monster pot. I think it was also you that managed to make my AJ beat AK and gave me the nuts against Rob's top pair, so all is forgiven.:D

Another great performance, Dave! Again and again you keep winning ... and they say this game is 90% luck! :D I love your descriptions of your HU opponent ... "skinhead guy Rob" in first report, then just "the gambler" LOL

    He is my cousin!

Only joking. Just wondering if he is the guy who was at my starting table (4) and then moved to table 1 at same time as me ... the guy I'm thinking of was listening to an imaginary walkman with banging beats. That him? :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 329 ✭✭DocO

yeh thats was me dave, v unlcky beat but you did well to come back from it, nearly trapped him perfectly when u completed small blind with KQ. Yeh was playin myself earlier, jus worked for a few hours. think was sitin to your right KP when u got knocked out, AQ re-raise?i think the guy your thinkin of KP is called Wes, was shortstacked and came back to decent level on final table, not sure how he finished though.
yeh u got the luck u deserved with the AJ dave, well done again

That was just my lack of punctuation KP, it should have been skin head guy, Rob (Rob as in RMcG). He wasn't the worst player in the world, but called all ins with K9 off, J7 suited, and 22, each time for a fair amount of chips. Not sure of his name, but I think he was the only skinhead at the final table so it's probably the same guy.
