Possibly a short between inner coax core and the outer mesh somewhere? Try disconnecting the receiver from the coax, turn it on and see if the the same error message comes on. You'll at least know then if the problem is with the receiver or with the coax/LNBF.

First thing I did.does the same thing regardless of whats connected. The remote doesn't even switch it on or off

sounds like a receiver fault if you have nothing connected but the mains power

Are you sure you're connecting the coax to the right IF port? Most receivers have 2 - one goes to the LNBF and the other is a loop-thru for another receiver.

(Some receivers will also throw up an error message if no signal is being received i.e. the dish is not aligned. )

Is there any movement or noise from the sat meter?

Best thing first is to recheck all F-connectors and ensure there are no shorts. Remove any Diseqc switches and reconnect up the receiver, the sat meter and the LNB. Assuming the sat meter is OK, then it should register some movement or noise, regardless of whether the dish is aligned or not. If it doesn't, then it looks like some fault with the receiver tuner.

The only other thing to do is measure the voltage out from the receiver IF port with a multimeter.

Definetly in the right port.I have a multi meter but no idea how to use it.

Absolutley nothing from the sat meter but will try with one LNB and no diseq and see what happens.

Check with multimeter that inner to outer of LNB connecto of Sat receiver is beteen 11V and 20V DC.

The Sat meter and LNBs are powered by the receiver.

Tried with just one LNB and no switch and still same.

What setting do i put the meter at? it has values for V~ and another voltager setting whose symbol i can't reproduce on screen. it has values of 2 200m 20 200 and 1000 for that setting and 700 200 202 and 200m on the v~ scale.which probe goes in red or black?

I would get the receiver sorted before tackling anything else, it may not be outputting any voltage

    Put it at 20

Red to middle pin of wire
    Black to outer.

Ok that's done. With the red on it's own it shows -0.03 and with both it shows a big fat zero.

Time to get onto the sellers creative satellite?

It sounds like the receiver is not well. Does it turn on/off with NO cables connected?

(Unplug it from mains to "reset" it in case it did see a "short".)

Plugin to mains and no other cables. See wil remote turn it on / off. Check remote batteries.
Less than 1.4V on meter is worn.

Yeah it turns off and on no problem on the receiver itself.Unplugging made no difference.

Remote has no effect and the batteries are fine.

I've sent emails to the seller and Technomate so now I have to wait.Bought from England so it's a hassle I could do without.

    Thanks for all the replies.

You havent loaded it with any custom firmware?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,420 ✭✭✭.G.

I haven't touched it apart from taking it out of the box and hooking it up.I got a patch cable with it for future patching, does this harm them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,148 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

Nope, well it can sometimes but only if you do something crazy like load the wrong flash. Was only wondering if the box was patched or not.
