You're all probably well aware of the existance of this music review site, but i only managed to stumble across it recently..

Anyway i think its fantastic, i dont agree with all their reviews but in general they are well thought out and fairly balanced, and they are not afraid to give gushing credit where its due, i.e. john lennon/radiohead etc, or be totally slating as in the case of coldplay, metallicas st anger etc.

Have to agree. Also try www.stylusmagazine.co.uk and
www.popmatters.com for more well written music
journalism. I haven't bought a magazine in years
because of these sites.

It's good for checking out news on upcoming albums and releases, but I wouldn't wipe my arse with their reviews.

I like them, sure they can be a bit pretentious, but they have some good staff on board who certainly know their music. A lot of great bands of the last couple of years have been helped along enormously by them. Think Clap Your Hands..., Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire etc.

And personally I've discovered some exceptional new music through them. Edan, The Books, Brad Mehldau....etc.

I think this should be enough to ward off any sane person from ever visiting this site again.

Also: Their whole thing of suddenly ironically loving mainstream rap and pop music is just ridiculous. We get it guys, well done. No need to put f*cking Cam'ron in your top ten records of the year.

I like them for news and check up on album reviews the odd time but they're horribly pretencious. Many times I can agree with the score that the album recieves but once I move to the writing I get put off straight away.

Mark Prindle's much better.

This is true. This guy's reviews make for some good readin'. They're frequently hilarious too.

They're usually accurate enough with their ratings. I find Metacritic more handy though, if something is rated well on there you know it's a good album.

You know somebody who wasn't actually full of **** and could write could have made that Kid A review work. I've seen a lot worse...
I read a review of josh ritter - hello starling... They barely said anything about the album.

their review of the corpo record was quite amusing.
because we are irish we are obviously torn apart by catholic guilt and self doubt, a main focus of the review, and how it informs our lyrics.

quite funny, seeing as you'll not find a more atheisty bunch. I've been in a church about twice my life, and am supposedly a protestant too.
