Whoo hoo... the Season 2: Episode 1 thread was just a little too dated for my posting liking. Also the poll was closed. For the benefit of non-US (because we're not able to) viewers

Thought Epsode 1 was Good, I am impressed that I managed to remember the story-line so long. I did like it, but kinda knew that Cmdr Adama wasn't really going to die.

    Come on S2:E2!

Well ***** me, what an episode. (edit: wow fictional bsg slang is censored here, *****! )

I read someones spoiler tag so I knew exactly what was going to happen. But I didn't mind so much. The special effects were pretty amazing.
But the attack seemed like a side-show to the anti-climactic assassination step down.

I wonder were that cylon has gone off too.
My guess is that the president will die soon. As Gaius replacing her is the only sh!t-stirrer I can think of. That and a few overly-loyal-to-their-dead-admiral Pegasus crew. Since the already rare cylon attacks have apparently been taken care of.

But there's plenty of episodes left for a new story arc.

[edit edit:]Off topic: Isn't this forum for people who have already been repeatedly subjected to the word *****? Ah, censorship usually doesn't make sense anyway.

Very good ep. I'm sorry I voted for Andromeda now. I thought it was a bit anti-climactic the way Kain (sp?) cancelled her order to assasinate Adama. I felt it would have been more dramatic to have given the order and then to have her second-in-command rebel. There was no way he was ever going to carry out that order.
The Cylon killing Kain (as predicted by a poster in last weeks thread, congrats!) was also a bit ant-climatic IMHO.
I liked the way they dealt with the battle - cool and understated. But I thought the battlestars were suprisingly easy to destroy. ****, I might destroy one myself next time I've got a few minutes to kill..
And whats up with Adama's son now FFS? Surely they can't make him any more of a whinger than he already was?

Loved it, thought it was fantastic. So where to now, next weeks will probably be a filler episode.

    Altho
i'd say the next few will be about the president on the way out, should be interesting what'll happen with Baltar, with adama as admiral who'll get captaincy of the ships

    Excellent stuff.
I love the way they stayed away from the usual heroic battle sequences. Using Apollos experience in space as a calm backdrop to the carnage was a brilliant touch, the fleeting glimpses seem all the more dramatic due to the contrast with the images of floating and the sound of his breathing. SciFi art at it's best. Glad to see Six-Sequel didn't let me down either ;)

Thought it was a great episode yet again. The battle was very impressive. The stand down made sense to me even if some were dissappointed by it. The only thing that didn't make sense was how Baltar manages to avoid any consequences for his actions.
Finally you can get a summary of next weeks episode and others coming up here. Don't read if you don't want to know but it's just the blurb for each episode.
And no I didn't use spoilers. I've said it before it's pointless having them in a thread that clearly annouces what will be discussed.

Actually I agree, people should know better. I just use them to avoid some fool getting stroppy regardless.

    great episode ...
except for the ending I mean wtf is up with that kiss, it totally messed up the episode for me and leaves adama open to the tried and trusted "well you're only admiral cos you're kissing the pres argument" gah! why'd they have to go and shmaltz the ending like that :(

Sweet jebus that was a good episode!!
Apollo floating in space as a backdrop to the battle in space was an excellent contrast, and you get to see the "big picture" of everything that is going on.

I also liked the fact that it wasn't just some static battle with the Cylon Base-Stars & the BattleStars standing off and trading blows, but rather them tring (well the BattleStars anyway) to maneuver constantly, much like you would expect of naval battle tactics today.

They've brought in an interesting potential story arc now with Apollo wanting to die in space like that, and then admitting it afterwards to Starbuck.

What was the deal with Dee listening in on Starbuck and Apollo though? Some kind of spy perhaps, or just setting the stage for revealing Apollo's deathwish? Very good episode still, even if I knew what was going to happen. A bit dissappointing that both assanation orders were retracted, but I guess the alternative would mean war between the two battlestars.

Where has Baltar hidden Six aswell? He told her that he had a place she could be safe. I'd also assume he'll claim he was knocked unconsious by the Cylon when she escaped, or maybe he'll say he was in the bog or something, in order to avoid suspicion.

Yes, that was odd. Perhaps Dee fancies Apollo? They had a 'moment' in an earlier episode IIRC.

Awesome episode. Well impressed with the CG from Zoic Studios.

Both Starbuck/Apollo seem to have lost confidence in their CO at the end of the ep. I hope the BSG writers don't ignore that and we'll see the effects of it in the rest of the season.

I rekon Baltar is a Cylon and he collects cylons in his own consiousness. Her body will be found next week and then Baltar will have 2 6's in his head :)

Absolute crap! Utter sh1te. That's what I'd be saying if I was living in a Mirror World..

I really enjoye this one. I'm totally on board with the way they used the calm, almost serene, form of Apollo floating and watching the battle as calmly as a blue sky. I think that was the most beautiful looking space battle I've ever seen. Art.

Adam reneging on his order to kill? That's fine. I felt it wouldn't have been in character to have him go through with it although it'd have been fun to see how *****ed up Starbuck would become over it. I was though a little disappointed in how Kain turned down her oder and how easily the Chief got off his murder charges - a little bit too neat.

There was some nice plot pieces picked up here. How will Six 2 cope, with the knowledge that anyone will recognise her? I assume there's a fleet wide alert on her. Where can she possibly go? And will Baltar still be in contact with her? And is this the end of Six-in-Head?

How will the Cylons come after them now with their intermediary stage gone? I'm assuming they'll leave Cylon plots alone for a few weeks now and have them face other, perhaps internal, enemies.

And I'm quite confident that Starbuck's lost of faith, and desire for strong leadership will not be left untouched. Apollo's similar loss of faith will also come about strongly at some point. I'm not sure what Dee was doing listening but I doubt it's any indication of anything other than loyalty to her current command structure..

Wow! Great stuff. This show just gets better and better.

Agree with everyone on the battle / floating in space contrast, amazingly done. Although I do sometimes wish they'd just hold that space-camera still every once in a while so I can get my barrings on the action. Maybe I just need a bigger TV :-/

I honestly can't think of anything they did wrong in this episode. Canceling the orders was fine and very well done I thought. Made the most sense for Adama and, as a knock-on from that, made sense for Kane too -- her's seemed more of a quick change of heart, after seeing the relief on Kara's face and realising what that was about (Kane and Adama must have both suspected each other. Wouldn't make sense otherwise).

And the build-up to it was great too. Perticularly on the side of the Pegasus XO and the troops on Galactica. Starbuck's seemed like a bit (alright, a LOT) of a suicide mission, so it was fairly obvious there would be intervention there, but all those troops on the Galactica were making me nervous :D

Six2 escaping and taking out Kane I didn't expect but again, well executed. Plus they didn't milk it at all in this episode so who knows where they'll go with it (did we see Baltar after he let Six go?).

Not going to speculate on next weeks episode. Feel it's best to just wait and see :)

oh.. and I got a chuckle from the Presidents line about "rumour has it that I don't know much about military protocol..." -- I've been reading comments since Pegasus showed up wondering why she didn't make him Admiral sooner (to get him out from under Kane).. and rumour has it that Ronald D. Moore pays attention to comments from fans :)

Ha - Admiral Cain's demise. Good riddance to bad rubbish! Frackin' A! I was wondering that myself, especially after his little "We'll go find this Earth" speech at the end of the pilot, it would have made sense for her to give him a promotion, but then again, the new Admiral hasn't exactly been very nice to her!

very good episode but wasnt as great as i'd hoped. Agree with what cregser has said about the battle being a side show to the anticlimatic assination plots. While what was shown briefly looked fantastic, way better cgi than The Hand of God ep in season 1, i dont think they made a big enough deal of what was a major operation and victory over the cylons. That and i just love space battles:D
The build up to the assinations was good though i didnt think Cain would balk.
Bet now that the captured 6 has got new lease of life she might be regretting giving the intel for blowing up her resurrection ship!
The kiss at the end was a bit unexpected as well.

Will be interesting to see how the plot develops with 2 battlestars. roll on the rest of the season!

excellent stuff, knew it had to be six2 who wasted kain, if it had of been starbuck then it would have been battlestar on battlestar and civil war in the fleet

    next weeks
time to deal with sharons baby and a "miracle" cure for the pres

And is this the end of Six-in-Head?

I think it is for now, but my question is why. Is it because she was never any more than a figment of Baltar's imagination? or...... Is it that with the destruction of the resurrection ship her means of communication with him is now gone? It could be either. I think at the moment we are meant to think it is because she only exists in Baltar's head, but I think that may not be the case ultimately.

Great episode, I can't remember the last time I felt so physically sick with tension during a tv show. (Well actually I can, it was Babylon 5's; Point of no Return, but I was a lot younger then - and thank you Channel 4 for showing it during my Leaving Cert). But I was disappointed with the way they killed Cain, not so much with how they did it but the timing.

The showdown on the CIC's had ended when Gina/6 escaped, making it immediately obvious what would happen to Admiral Cain. If Baltar had offered her an alternative to suicide before that was concluded I think I would have been more distracted and less likely to instantly figure it out. And it might be just a craving for melodrama, but if 6 had killed Cain, while she was still on Pegasus CIC, just as everyone was relaxing because no-one was going to be killed it might have had a more shocking impact. Of course then Six couldn't have escaped and I'm just overcompensating as I was a little disappointed in the ending.

I didn't think this ep lived up to its predecessor. There were some good moments in it, and I really liked the way the Admiral went out... but there were too many continuity issues and inconsistencies for me.

The fly bys at the resurrection ship were pretty cool. I really love the way this show keeps the physics real.

I enjoyed it, and I'm hooked overall on the series... but this one didn't hit the top scores for me.

Haven't watched this episode so am trying to avoid looking at what happens next.

Anyway I have a question. Does it adequately explain WHY the Pegasus never suffered from the Cylon disabling 'virus' given that it's a newer Battlestar? If every other ship in the fleet was stopped except BSG why did the Pegasus survive? Just thought it was a whopping plot hole.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,082 ✭✭✭✭Stark

The Pegasus was in a shipdock undergoing repairs at the time and her computers were offline.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,893 ✭✭✭Canis Lupus

Errr at the risk of being pedantic tho they launched attacks on the cylons later. They should still have been at risk. And they activated their computers long enough to spin up the FDL drive and jump out.

    Anyway I'll stop now :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

They got wind of the Virus, and un-networked there systems, i suppose.
