    I have a home pc..
    Was working fine before xmas..

Went away for 2 and half wks..

    Next thing I know..
come home and press on the power button..
    Nadah..
    Not a thing..

can anyone suggest what the hell is wrong??
    or did it just die..

I'm guessing power supply.. as there is no power.. (Obvious)

Your house may have had a power surge, did you leave it switched on before you left? Make sure the cat has not knocked a cable loose :).

Lightening fried two of my computers so thats what I always think of first these days (Finally got a surge protector). Check inside for burnmarks etc. Check all cables, try a friends psu. Sometimes if ur lucky a surge wont go beyond the psu other times not so lucky.

Did you check the fuse in the plug?

atx power cable has probably come out, you'd be surprised, i see about 10 a month where the cable just comes out over time... Just get a paper clip and short the green and a black pins together, this basically tells the power supply to turn on...
Or like me last year after my holiday... i came home... flicked the switch on the power supply, pressed the power button, buzz buzzz buzzzz bang... smoke... the power supply was fine... a spider has just met its end in the power supply, i'd modded my powersupply to make it quiter (new fan, temperature control) and i think i made it a little too easy for the little critters to get in...

It was pretty cold over Christmas and without the heat on it was probably freezing in the house, could this have caused the pins to contract and the power connector to fall off (could have been loose to begin with)?

Or perhaps the normal cycle of heating up and cooling down caused the connector to become loose, and it was just by chance that it stopped working when it did.
