I must check it out. When you say excellent do you mean it in an old In Flames way (The Jester Race) or a new In Flames way (Soundtrack to your Escape)?

    Hopefully Jester Race!

just another take on Pornapsters question; is it metal or metalcore?

It's roughly (IMHO) around the level of Reroute To Remain. Maybe a little better overall. An improvement on STYE, but not up to the level of the older stuff.
And there's still a fair bit of clean vocals...

It's alright, nowhere near what they are capable of though. Parts of it sound like something Korn might churn out... :(

More STYE than the older stuff, but their heading in that direction, they make use of 2 guitars a LOT more than on the last 2 albums, and theres very little keyboard work, and the drumming is excellent in places too. However the vocals are pretty poor (whiney), the music is heading in the right direction at least, with some pretty good lead riff's throughout. I like it, probably the best of their new albums (RtR, and STYE), but comparing it to Jester Race or Whoracle is asking a lot though :)

This is not a good In Flames album. I've been listening to this band from the start of their career and album after album I was impressed, but then things started to go pear shaped.

Reroute to Remain was the last decent album it may not be the best In Flames album but holds some great song one being my favourite . System.

Soundtrack to your escape came after and as it wasn't the best In Flames album it was the worst at the time, its when Anders gained that needy voice of his. Then Comes Come Clarity which conforms with your average crap American rock. I bought this and now I want rid of it, maybe I'll burn it and it'll be the real In Flames, not this whiney sounding tripe.

If your looking for Swedish Metal with balls get Catch Thirty Thr33 by Meshuggah. Meshuggah being like fine wine while In Flames are more like milk.

Quite a shame as I've got a ticket to see them live.......I just hope they play mostly there old stuff.

The boyfriend just got it and thinks its the most god-awful crap ever. He thinks they've turned into a Korn tribute act.

I haven't heard any In Flames after Clayman, and I don't know if I want to.
Judging from comments from friends and the like they seem to go downhill :(

come clarity sounds like "in flames" as a cover band for "in flames"

Id say RtR was the all time low for In Flames, theres little to no real guitar work on the whole album, the drumming is poor and the vocals are definately sub par, and then theres song like Metaphor which are just cringe worthy. Id rate Whoracle as their last melodic death album, and colony as their last great album, the last 2 albums have been musically far better than RtR imo, the vocals are dire, but no worse than RtR.

It's time to move on, In Flames just aren't significant in (good) metal anymore and haven't released anything worthy since Clayman.

There's far too much good music out there to spend time talking about an obsolete band.

I have the new album finally. And I have to say that I am pleased with parts of it. The tempo definately has picked up from RtR and STYE. Although I have to say it does get boring in parts.
