Expedia and Irish Credit Cards

I was all set to book a very cheap flight and hotle deal through expedia.co.uk. When I went to add my billing address I couldnt find Ireland in the list, so checked the customer support if I could book with an Irish Credit Card. Got the following response....

Due to restricting Irish regulations relating to the offering of travel products in and out of the Republic of Ireland, we currently do not accept bookings from customers with a booking address within the Irish Republic. Work is in progress to rectify this situation but in the meantime we regret that we are unable to process bookings from customers with a Southern Irish address at this time.

..Does anybody know what these 'restricting Irish regulations' are??

I have done so, but have been waiting a while for a response. Hopefully the response will clear things up.

    Got a reply...

We are sorry, but according to Irish Government legislation we are not permitted to accept bookings from customers holding an address within the Irish Republic. Work is in progress to rectify this situation but in the meantime we have to respect the trading laws of the country.

Travelocity take Irish credit cards and were cheaper than expedia when I used them!

If you have any friends or relatives in the North, try using their address. Tell the travel company you work in the Republic hence the Irsih credit card.

They can't tell if the card is Irish, unless you tell them. They won't check the billing address. How can they?

The first 4 digits on any CC are given to the issueing bank/agency. So all AIB CC's have the same first 4 digits, which the online payment processor can identify straight away

yeah the first four digits of all credit cards are used to identify the issuer, but that doesn't necessarily link to your billing address. you could live in NI and have a BOI credit card...

Does anyone know if this has changed yet??

I.e. has anyone actually given an Irish card/address successfully recently?

Could really do with a reply asap because the next best price Ive gotten expires on Monday so If I cant take the Expedia one I have to take the other one on Monday! :O

Tried to book internal US flights today and no joy. Emailed them and it was the same standard reply.

Well I'll tell you my story.

I booked an inter carribean flight with a crowd called Liat.com.
I thought it was liat air-it certainly looked like liat air on the website but it wasnt.

Turns out it was travelnow.com an associate website of expedia so my booking went through expedia in the states.

There then followed a whole rig a ma roll where by they wanted me to fax them an authorization form with my name , address and cc details etc.

Still havent done this and my cc company says not to.

The paper tickets are on their way now (3 days later) though via ups and the payment has been taken.

Thats expedia in the states for you.
