Hi, we're looking for some musicians to join up with us for a Steely Dan tribute act with an aim to gig regularly and do the odd tour.

    So far we have:
    A Drummer,
    A Bassist,
    A Keyboardist/Pianist
    A Lead Singer, and,
    A Backing Singer.

    We Need:
    A Lead Guitarist,
    A Rhythm Guitarist,
    A Female Backing Singer,
    And some Random Horn Players.

We usually rehearse once a week (might bump that up to two when the pace picks up) in Dublin City Centre.

We're all of varying ages and musical backgrounds but share a common love of Steely Dan.

If you are interested or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on this thread. Alternatively you can PM me or send me an e-mail: howaya@gmail.com

    Thanks!

    Wow
Cant believe you cant find guitarists I remember a time in this city where you could'nt swing a cat without hitting one in the face !
I guess its hard to find the right ones for the steely stuff you need a classy 1 with jazzy chops and a sweet sweet strat rock sound and a good knowledge of jazz chord voiceings.

Best o luck with that 1

Sure someone is up to the challange.

I actually did swing a cat once, it hit a guitarist in the face, very nasty incident, lots of blood and shouting............

Do ya need a tenor sax or alto sax player? I'm intrigued...

Do you do any of Don Fagen's The Nightfly?

Did he ask for a tenor sax or alto sex player? I don't think so genius.

I would imagine "Random Horns" would suggest they're looking for either alto or tenor sax genius.

I saw a gig in Cork recently with a Steely Dan covers band and to be honest, even though the band were brilliant, only about 5% of the fairly large crowd knew any of the tunes. It says a lot that they finished with "Reeling in the years" cause most would know that from the RTE show. Personally I think their popularity doesn't justify another covers band.

I reckon it's probably more for the musicians involved than for anyone else. I'd love to play Aja with a band.

    Yeah, Thanks for the support.
If you actually read my post, it says we're looking for 'Musicians', not 'opinions'.

You have a funny attitude. You're not a member of the Progressive Democrats by any chance?

Either the democrats or some other organisations that immediately spring to mind,
You learn allot as a musician from playing this music its almost impossible to separate the jazz element from the popular which is knitted with fantastic arrangements and tight grooves what more do you want.
& Yes sax players or any other kind of horn players are greatly needed and more than welcome to audition.
    Guitarists where you all hiding!
    Peace Out.

Oh dear......bump again. Where are all the Dan fans?

anyone know where all the players from "The wind machine" gone? They were doing this a couple of years ago. You may be able to nab the players from that. I knew 4 of the players and theyre all giggin full time with other bands, my suspicions are that steelydanesque type players are all doing same and maybe not willing to commit to another nights rehearsing.
Again, I know its an "opinion" but maybe one that might explain why youre not getting the players you think should be out there.

can't say i'm a huge fan, but i'll do it if it's a paid gig. Guitarist here

To reiterate Garrard ...you're gonna need some people with serious chops.. that stuff is tough on the geetar !
I can just about play a bad rendition of the Kid Charlemagne solo..if thats any use...maybe I could be a guest soloist when u play that song :O)
Def one of the best solos ever tho and I heard it was done in one take ..farkin ell thats scary talent.
