Are there any microwaves available in the Arts building for students?

I thought I heard something about more microwaves in a recent SU meeting or something... any progress?

I had actually written a little spat about what microwaves (not the oven ones) were and how they were everywhere etc. Then decided against posting it. To my knowledge there are currently no microwaves available to the general student public.

I don't actually know myself what the progress is on this, but yeah there was a motion passed at the last SU Council asking (with a few corrections, one saying "College" instead of other locations):
    11. Microwaves within College

    Council notes:
The lack of facilities available to students who wish to heat their
    own food in college.

    Council further notes:
That careful financial management is important for students.
Council recognises the expense of purchasing food on campus daily.

    Council acknowledges:
The necessity of a microwave in the Buttery and/or Hamilton
restaurants so that students can heat food that they have prepared
    themselves.

    Council mandates:
The Welfare Officer and/or President to present the students case to
the relevant body and to lobby for the provision of microwaves for
    student use.

    Edumyth: thanks for the info

Apex: electromagnetic radiation of extremely short (or is it long) wavelength?

*edit* yep, it's short, go me! And sometimes if you ask realllly nicely at the buttery they'll heat your food for you... but now with the "don't bring your own food in" rule I don't know :(

Well... ~1 centimetre isn't that short if you consider that visible light is ~5x10^-7metres (0.0000005 metres) :o

1 centimetre is short if you consider that light travels a metre in 1/299,792,458 of a second.

I'll see your speed of light and raise you a piece of string.

I heard Dónal, the Education Officer, has a microwave in his office in House 6 (next to front arch) and that he's willing to let students use it freely.

I say I have a grand idea! Call up to him; and accuse him of raping you of your rights if he says that it's all a big misunderstanding, and that he doesn't actually have a microwave in his office.

    :v:

P.S. Three cheers for the microwave in Amnesty Int'l Room.
