    Hi,
I am getting broadband soon and want to get a few games and that off the net. Some of the games are multiplayer, I have 2 computers in my house:D , one in my room and one downstairs. I want to link up the two computers together so I can get a friend to use one and I can use the other. Can I do this by setting up a lan? I am not the best at computers and am only new to this. How would I go about setting up so that the two computers can connect together.
    Thanks for your help,
    Sean

You could connect the two by an ethernet cable and just select LAN in any game and you should be sorted. You can also set up a wireless network but you might get a worse signal.

You would use a Wireless LAN...

One computer would have to have a router (If you are getting the Broadband Router with the Wi-Fi you can also use this), and the other computer would have to have either a wireless card or a wireless drive that plugs into one of the USB ports.

Next you will have to change the workgroup name of each computer, it can be anything, it can be the default, but both computers (or whatever amount of computers you are using) have to have the same name... The default is MSHOME as far as I know...

After this it is simple (I am presuming you are using Windows XP), you can just set it up automatically using the wireless wizard. Then the two computers will be networked, and you can share music, photos, files, printers, scanners on each. If you have it set up with wireless, you can also share your broadband (the other pc or laptop will have broadband as well).

And the good thing about this is that if you have another friend coming over with a new laptop (most new laptops have WLAN built in), once his workgroup name is the same as all the computers in the network, he can join in and you can play games three-way!! :D

NOTE: Games that support LAN will find the other computers automatically, you do not have to enter any unique computer specs!! :)

    Hope that helps ya ;)

This will work but if one computer is upstairs and the other is downstairs, it could get very messy!!! I have a wireless LAN in my house at the mo (used to have a cable) and don't notice any difference. There is 4 computers on this network in my house
