Well I loving my new sony 20gig player - very cool and its a nice change from the ipod's and the ipod wannabe's

I voted other for my Zen touch, but on reflection, I probably prefer my sister's zen sleek. My other sister has the Sony NW-3000, and I don't like that at all.

I'm looking to pick up a 20gb h10 when I can, I've used iPod, Zen and h10, and the iRiver is certainly the most intuitive and.....sexy

I think that's the first time I ever heard the H10 being praised.

Edit: Being compared to an iPod, that explains it ;)

In terms of MP3 playback, it's got to be the H140, which I'm lucky to have. Optical ports, LCD remote, ROCKBOX etc etc. Over 2 years old and still the best for Audio playback and a LOT has happened to MP3 players in the past 2 years!

Sorry muck warrior but for a decent price the h10 is a class piece of kit. Ok its not as good as the two leaders but they were also a lot more expensive!

Still I can't believe that people are actually voting ipod!!! Are these people insane!

    Er... no they weren't:

    20GB iRiver H10 : €300
    20GB iAudio X5 : €329
    20GB iRiver H320: €299

No, they just like the iPod. Nothing wrong with that.

As stated in another post, iPod's are not sh1t, they do not generally, across the board, suck! And on the occasion of a fault, as I had with my 20GB click wheel the customer service was absolutely topnotch! So I voted for my iPod :D

On a side note, the iRivers, in my experience, seem quite impressive, but Zen's I just do not like! Too bulky, and, particularly on the Zen Touch, an ultra-slippery finish so you can drop and smash your very own mp3 player in the comfort of your own home! Whats with that??

if you ever paid €300 for a h10 they you paid way over the odds. the H10 was never €300!!!

Appologies, just noticed that you are comparing it with teh 20gig models. Sorry I have the 6 gig version myself. The H10 is a great 5/6gig model but if I was going 20 i would have gone for the 320 series.

Zens im not taken with, seem to plasticy and flimsy to me and just dont like the interface.

I had a 20gig 3rd gen ipod that produced what can only be described as woeful sound and then i got a 6gig mini when i was told they had vastly improved. Sound out of them is better but still pretty bad compared to other mp3 players.

As for the nano's and video ipods, how apple haven't recalled these is beyond me. my best mate's nano has a screen so bad you can just about read it (apple refuse to replace it) and a work colleague’s video ipod only 3 weeks old is already scratched to bits despite only ever keeping it in the protective cover!!!

So on those basis i will never even entertain the idea of an ipod and as you can probably tell i have a slight distaste for them now!!!

The iriver h series and the iaudio x5 are the best for sound quality. No doubt about that. I hate ipods because of their brutal sound quality but they definitely have the best video playback.

The Sony 20gb one is class. I had two different Ipods and while they are very cool I wanted to go for something different. Its back to basics, no gimics - no flashy colour screen, no video, no pics, just a proper 20gb music player. Sound is very good (as you'd expect from a Sony). And I love the screen and the shape of the player, you have to go into sony hold it and turn it on...its very cool. Screen doesnt stand out, its blended into the unit...go see what I mean.

Sony aren't very popular because of the sh1t reputation they developed, firstly by not supporting mp3 and also by forcing sh1t sonic stage software on the user. They may have fixed those problems now but i guess sh1t sticks!

I voted iPod simply because I've been using itunes for a while now anyway, and have never needed the wide codec support offered by other players.

imo, it has a great interface, design and playlist functions, also very, very good video playback quality.

Sound quality isn't the best but it's never bothered me too much.

only major problems so far are that it scratches like feck, almost for no apparent reason. I had to get a case pretty much straight away, and the earphones suck.. I'll have to get me some nice sony in-ear ones,

but other than that I'm happy with it.

I've got a Sony HD1 and it's fantastic. Great sound quality, storage, battery life, looks and size & weight.

The only fly in the ointment, and it is a considerable one, is that Sony's software is absolutely awful. I don't mind the ATRAC file format, sound quality and file sizes are top notch, but the software is so bloated, memory hungry and unintuitive that it pains me to use it.

It is fooking huge, there last one was tiny. Sony are idiots, they should have called them walkmen all along, they would have gotten lots of ipod customers. The name would have stood out and ipod would not be the generic name for a DAP now, people would have been calling them apple walkmans, like I hear people saying "iriver ipods" these days.
I thought ipod would have been way out in front (for all the wrong reasons)

rubadub: Sony's mp3 players have been branded walkman for as long as I remember. The NW in the model number stands for Network Walkman, and they've all had the walkman 'w' on their cases.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 374 ✭✭IceHawk

Sony have decided to get off their high horse, and their last update for Connect player and the NWA3000 includes .wma compatability. Connect is still crap, but it's slightly better.

Good oul iRiver PMP-140, not too big, nice video playback, radio, txe viewer, mp3 recorder. too bad it doesnt have the original advertised support for 8-bit games, alarm clock function, and record from radio features otherwise it would be the best.

My poor iRiver H320 was taken from me by the mean evil sea last year....R.I.P.

i love creative, havent used an iriver, but i hate the feel fo the ipod and found the new sony 20Gb thing to be very irritating to use and i hate the screen on it

My creative zen xtra is one of the old models so its like carrying around a small brick in your handbag but i need the excersice and im not likely to lose it! 60Gb can be quite handy to back crap up w/ as well
